Evan Peters won his first Emmy Award for his work as Detective Colin Zabel in Mare of Easttown in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie category. Following Julianne Nicholson’s victory for Supporting Actress, it was the HBO series’ second triumph of the night.

Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), Daveed Diggs (Hamilton), Jonathan Groff (Hamilton), Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), and Thomas Brodie-Sangster (The Queen’s Gambit) were among the other candidates for the prize.

“Thank you to the Academy. My fellow nominees, you guys were all incredible this year,” Peters said while accepting the award. “I got to thank my mom and dad for getting me out to L.A. You guys are crazy for doing that, but we’re going to drink tonight.”

The American Horror Story alum went on to praise HBO and those who contributed to the success of the crime drama by saying, “Thank you for letting me be a part of your brilliantly written show,” before adding, “And Kate Winslet for being Kate Winslet!”

He said, “But I especially want to thank everyone who watched this show. This was a dream come true for me tonight and it wouldn’t have been possible without you, so thank you.”

That wasn’t the only compliment Winslet received that night; fellow Mare of Easttown actor Julianne Nicholson thanked Winslet for convincing her to join the series, which won four prizes.

The series garnered 16 awards in all, with Winslet, 45, receiving accolades for best limited or anthology series and outstanding lead actress.

The actor, who was previously renowned for his roles on many seasons of American Horror Story, had a breakout year with Mare of Easttown and WandaVision. The HBO limited series and working with Winslet gave the actor an opportunity to try something new.

“I just love to go big. I think it’s so fun, and some of my favorite actors are very big actors. But this was an opportunity to go the opposite direction,” Peters told ET in August. And given the nature of Mare, “it was an opportunity to take everything down a notch and be a little more still and subdued.”

Easttown follows Winslet’s character Mare as she investigates the death of a little girl in a tiny town.

On Sunday, the Pose alum said, “I want to thank the amazing crew… [and] anyone who’s ever helped me along the way. And I especially want to thank everyone who watched the show. This is a dream come true for me tonight and it wouldn’t have been possible without you.”

Sarah Paulson openly congratulated her American Horror Story co-star on social media after learning of his nomination in July, saying, “This person right here, he’s deserved a nomination every year for the past decade. This morning they got it right.”

The Kick-Ass star talked about his experience working on the dark drama and how he “knew” his character wouldn’t make it to the finish earlier this year. (During the fifth episode, Zabel died in a stunning twist.)

In May, the Missouri native told The New York Times, “To me, it felt very real, and it sort of speaks to the danger of being in this line of work. It reminded me of that moment in Burn After Reading where Brad Pitt gets shot in the forehead in the closet — which is sort of hilarious but also really shocking, and we wanted to have that sort of feeling once it happens.”

Winslet also received the award for Outstanding Lead Actress, a nod to the industry’s female talent.

‘I just want to acknowledge my fellow nominees in this decade that has to be about women having each other’s backs. I support you. I salute you. I’m proud of all of you.’
