Kim Kardashian, the TV star-turned-criminal-justice crusader, will make a “unbelievable attorney,” according to CNN host Van Jones.

On Monday, the lawyer, author, and CNN anchor spoke on The Ellen DeGeneres Show about his new documentary, The First Step, which will focus on criminal justice reform. In the documentary, Kardashian makes an appearance.

When Ellen DeGeneres inquired how the Keeping Up with the Kardashians actress is going with her studies, Jones, 52, stated that Kardashian has been studying hard and “doing amazing” with her academics so that she can utilize her platform to make a difference.

“She has used her platform to help people behind bars.”

He also mentioned that the creator of SKIMS is following in her father’s footsteps, Robert Kardashian, who notably represented OJ Simpson during his murder trial.

“Her dad [the late Robert Kardashian Sr.] was a lawyer, and she always wanted to be a lawyer,” says Kardashian.

The 40 year old “hasn’t let up” since she “got a taste of what she could do using her platform, using her brain,” according to Jones.

“I think she’s gonna be an unbelievable attorney and she’s already one of the best advocates that we have in criminal justice,” he continued.

Jones and Kardashian, were rumored to be secretly dating in April when they began working closely together on prison reform, though none of their representatives confirmed at the time.

Jones’ Oakland-based nonpartisan nonprofit #cut50 hired Kardashian as an apprentice, and she starred in his upcoming criminal reform documentary “The First Step,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and AFI in June.

Jones praised the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” actress for the work she’s already done to aid people in jail for nonviolent charges, including Alice Marie Johnson, who was formally pardoned by former President Donald Trump in August.

Jones had praised Kardashian’s ambition, telling Extra in April 2019 that her desire to become a lawyer had impressed him since they first met at the White House in late 2018, when they were working on criminal-justice reform.

Jones, a Yale Law School graduate, remarked, “She takes these cases seriously.  It’s embarrassing to go into a meeting with Kim Kardashian, you’re the attorney and she’s not and she knows more than you by far, and that happens all the time.”

“[Kim] is so prepared, she is so passionate, she reads the letters that she gets, and is always trying to figure out how to be helpful,” he shared. “People forget she is the daughter of a very accomplished lawyer. She is also the mother of three African-American kids, so that puts that criminal justice conversation in a different place.”

“She is just extraordinary,” the CNN anchor said, “and people are just going to have to reassess — she is not that kid that used to party with Paris Hilton.”

Kardashian is divorcing her husband, Kanye West, with whom she has four children. Meanwhile, Jones and his wife, Jana Carter, divorced in June 2019 after their separation in May 2018.

The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star is preparing to pass the California bar exam soon.
