Reese Witherspoon has spoken up about her arrest in 2013 with husband Jim Toth for driving under the influence.

Witherspoon was detained for disorderly behavior after getting out of the automobile against a police officer’s orders.

She asked the officer if he knew who she was, as seen in video evidence of the encounter. Jim eventually admitted to driving while inebriated.

Two weeks later, the actress apologized on Good Morning America for her actions.

“It’s just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry and embarrassed,” she stated at the time, “We made a mistake and it was something that will absolutely never happen again.”

“We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. We know better and we shouldn’t have done that.”

On the podcast, I Weigh With Jameela Jamil, Witherspoon reflected on the episode.

“You apologized and shamed yourself in a way that was so f–king refreshing to me,” Jameela Jamil said on Thursday, April 16.

Witherspoon acknowledged, “I did something really stupid. It was so embarrassing and dumb… But, you know what — [it] turns out I breathe air. I bleed the same way. I make dumb decisions. I make great decisions. I’m just a human being.”

‘We’re all just the same as each other and we’re all trying to find what our special skills are. My special skill is storytelling but that doesn’t mean I’m a special person,’ she said.

‘Talent doesn’t make you a good person. But a big value in my family was, ‘Are you a good person?”

“I was always really feisty, my mum called me feisty. Sometimes it was well-directed and sometimes it was not,” the Oscar winner remarked.

On several occasions, Witherspoon has apologized for the event.
In an April 2013 statement, she said, “I clearly had one drink too many and am deeply embarrassed about the things said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I’m very sorry for my behavior.”
The two also discussed mental health on Thursday’s edition of the “I Weigh” podcast, with Witherspoon disclosing that she sought counseling for anxiety when she was 16 years old.

“I definitely have anxiety,” she added, “my anxiety manifests as depression so I would get really depressed. It’s like my brain is a hamster on a wheel and it won’t come off and I’ve been managing it my entire life.”

Mental health concerns are “very treatable,” according to the singer, but it’s critical to remove the stigma that surrounds them.

“Anything that people can do to de-stigmatise it,” added Witherspoon.

Reese’s counsel pled no guilty to the charges after her arrest, and she was ordered to pay a total fine of $313 (£250), plus court costs.

In May 2013, the agent, 49, pled guilty to driving while intoxicated and was sentenced to community service, a fine of $600 (£479), a year on probation, and an alcohol education program.
