After receiving criticism for revealing that he took his 18-year-old daughter to the gynecologist every year for virginity testing, TI has defended himself.

The rapper has been silent since earlier this month, when he boasted on the Ladies Like Us podcast that he accompanied his 18-year-old daughter Deyjah to her annual pelvic tests to confirm she’s still a virgin, out of respect for her.

Many experts, including Dr. Jen Gunter, weighed in on the rapper’s statements, which sparked uproar on social media platforms at the time.

“The hymen is no virginity indicator, 50 per cent of sexually active teens do not have a disrupted hymen. The hymen is often very flexible,” she said earlier this month on Twitter.

But today, in a new episode of Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch, he and his wife Tiny Harris, 44, are speaking publicly for the first time about the issue he jokingly refers to as ‘hymengate,’ sitting down with Jada Pinkett Smith and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones.

T.I. told Jada Pinkett Smith that he believes a “false narrative” has been “sensationalized” about his comments, but he also defended his decision to “protect” his daughter from “the little slimy, grimy, chubby-fingered little boys who want to just come and defile and destroy the sanctity that I have.”

“I think all of this surrounds a conversation that I was having in a very joking manner when asked how do I deal with parenting in this day and age,” he stated.

“I began to embellish and exaggerate,” he continued. “I think that a lot of people kind of took it extremely literal … I honestly thought people knew me better than that.”

He also stated that he was ignorant of the topic’s sensitivity at the time, but not anymore.

However, he continues to blame the public for misinterpreting him.

‘My intentions, I think, have been terribly misconstrued,’ he says.

“Let me go set this record straight. I never said I was in any exam room. That is an assumption. That is a falsity.

“I never said that it was being done present-day, as an 18-year-old.”

“She was 15 and 16 years old at the time,” Tiny Harris interrupted.

TI continued: “And I never said her mother wasn’t present. Her mom was present every time.”

Tiny, on the other hand, claims that despite T.I. claiming to have made the doctor’s appointments in the podcast interview, he never did.

‘All of this false narrative has just been sensationalized,’ he claims.

He also stated that his daughter did not object to his attendance during doctor’s appointments at the time, but did “have a problem” with his publicly discussing it. He apologized to her “incredibly apologetic” but not to others who “toss lies around for fun.”

T.I. then claims that “society” does not want him to be active in his daughter’s life.

‘I want to know, what is the purpose and place of a father in this society?’ he adds. ‘Because a father like myself, who wants to be as involved and as attentive as possible, we could draw the conclusion of, we just donate sperm and come pay for things and we don’t have no say-so in how things are handled.’

After clarifying that some people saw his words as an attempt to “control” his daughter’s virginity, Pinkett Smith asked the rapper how he would like people to interpret his amount of control over his daughter throughout the conversation.

“In the age, or the time, when our women, black women, are the most unprotected, unattended, disregarded women on the planet. I’m being criticized because I’m willing to go above and beyond to protect mine,” T.I. said. “And I’m talking about all of the little slimy, grimy, chubby-fingered little boys who want to just come and defile and destroy the sanctity that I have —”
