Will Smith has spoken about his first heartbreak in a recent interview with the BBC, revealing that he was left scarred for life after his date stood him up at a dance when he was just 10 years old.
The Oscar-winning actor recounted how Stacy Brooks had promised him the last dance of the night at Shawn Hollis’ birthday party, but at the crucial moment, she was on the floor with David Brandon.
“I’ve been scarred from that moment,” he said, “but hey, I’m getting over it.
I think I’m going to be okay.”
Smith went on to say that he had believed things were heating up between him and Stacy, but then something bad always seemed to happen whenever they were together.
“Like all the bad stuff that happened… it happened around Stacy Brooks,” he stated.
“Things were heating up as much as they can when you’re 11 and I thought she was starting to like me and then I got stung by a bee.”
Unfortunately, Smith’s romantic troubles didn’t end there.
His wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, recently revealed during an episode of Red Table Talk on Facebook Watch that she had cheated on Smith during a difficult period in their relationship.
Pinkett Smith explained that she had begun a friendship with August Alsina, which eventually turned into a relationship while she and Smith were separated.
“I was very broken.
In the process of that relationship, I definitely realized you can’t find happiness outside of yourself,” Pinkett Smith said.
Alsina claimed that Smith had given him his blessing to date his wife, but the situation understandably caused a great deal of embarrassment for the couple.
It seems that Smith’s love life is always complicated.
He famously slapped comedian Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony after Rock made jokes about Smith’s wife, despite allegations that she had cheated on him.
Although Smith was banned by the Academy from attending for ten years, his career recovered after he signed up for a number of high-profile projects.
However, Smith’s problems with women choosing other men over him date back to his youth, as he was stood up by Stacy Brooks at that fateful dance.
Despite this, Smith seems to be taking everything in his stride.
“I think I’m going to be okay,” he said about his childhood heartbreak.
