Mila Kunis condemned the standing ovation given to Will Smith at the Academy Awards in March after he won Best Actor, which occurred shortly after he struck Chris Rock.

The actress defended her choice to remain seated for Smith, even though most of the audience stood up to cheer for the actor following his significant victory for his performance in King Richard, according to Fox News.

“Setting an example is only logical when you have someone to guide,” Kunis shared with C Magazine.

“We’ve got our small close-knit family here, and I never want to instruct them to do something if I’m not prepared to do it myself.”

“Not standing up, for me, was an easy decision, but the surprising part was the number of people who did stand up.

“I thought, ‘Incredible, we live in a time where people prioritize looking good over doing what’s right.’ It’s unbelievable to me.”

Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher were present at the event where Smith slapped Rock after he joked about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

The couple stayed seated as Smith accepted his award.

Kunis recently encountered her own difficulties in the limelight when she was jeered by the audience during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! at a recording in Brooklyn.

The actress maintained a good attitude about the situation, playfully telling Kimmel, “What’s wrong with your audience? Very New York of you, very New York.”
