While 2019 is shaping up to be a busy year, with films like Us, Shazam, and Captain Marvel hitting theaters (along with Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker this holiday season), the impending Avengers: Endgame is perhaps the most anticipated film of the year. While the film is slated to push the Marvel Cinematic Universe to one of its most significant conflicts yet, a set photo revealed that despite the high stakes, the ensemble still finds time to play old-school games now and again.

Fans now know what kept Evans and Johansson occupied during downtime on the set, courtesy to a picture published on Mark Ruffalo’s official Twitter account, which shows the two engaged in a Game Boy fight. Both performers appeared to be enjoying whatever game they were playing on the old school console, and based on their looks, this photo was shot during the filming of the last part, with Johansson’s hair longer and Evans’ clean-shaven.

Ruffalo wrote: “#FBF to our long days on the #AvengersEndgame set @ChrisEvans Only 2️⃣ more weeks to go!”

The photograph sparked delight and excitement among fans. At the time of writing, the image has around 60,000 retweets and over 340,000 likes. GIFs depicting Evans and Johansson’s wonderful vibe and how delighted the wholesome image made people feel flooded the thread’s comments. One enthusiast even went to the trouble of editing the image to make it look like a throwback ad for the Game Boy.

While we may expect them to be playing on a Nintendo Switch or perhaps a 3DS in this day and age, it’s still surprising to find that they are retro at heart, with a pair of Game Boys to boot. Even though the stakes are high for Captain America, Black Widow, and the rest of the Avengers in Avengers: Endgame, it’s nice to see the actors relax with some classic games.

Evans’ and Johansson’s MCU roles were mainly shelved in last year’s major movie due to the enormous actor list. Apart from the one fight sequence with Sam Wilson/Falcon and important scenes during the great battle in Wakanda, they didn’t have much to do in the movie. Cap and Widow, on the other hand, appear to be organizing the squad for their forthcoming mission, based on the footage fans have seen thus far for Endgame. They’ll be in charge of gathering the surviving heroes and devising a strategy to destroy Thanos. Rogers, in particular, who stepped down after a falling out with Tony Stark, appears to be leading the gang once more for their upcoming expedition.

Avengers: Endgame will be released worldwide on April 24th, and 26th in the United States. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Paul Rudd, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Danai Gurira, Benedict Wong, Jon Favreau, and Bradley Cooper star alongside Gwyneth Paltrow and Josh Brolin in the film directed by Anthony and Joe Russo.
