Will Smith explains Why He isn’t in ‘Independence Day 2’

“Independence Day: Resurgence,” the sequel to “Independence Day” is in cinemas this weekend. If you go to see it, the first thing you’ll undoubtedly notice is that Will Smith isn’t back for another alien combat.

Jessie Usher, 24, takes his position as his stepson Dylan Dubrow-Hiller, who is following in his stepfather’s footsteps as an alien-fighting fighter pilot.

Will Smith’s character Steven Hiller appears to have perished. It is said: “While test piloting the ESD’s new alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the death of Col. Hiller.”

Why did Will Smith decline to reprise his role in the Independence Day sequel, despite the fact that he was the major star in the first film?

In an interview with BBC radio, the 47-year-old stated that he was unable to sign on for Independence Day: Resurgence due to a schedule conflict.

“It was one of those things – I had a couple of films lined up, I had Concussion and Suicide Squad, and so it was a decision, timing-wise, between Independence Day and Suicide Squad,” the 47-year-old explained. “They were sending pictures from the set, and I was like, ahh.”

“The world is in a place of nostalgia right now,” he added. “Specifically in entertainment, there’s such a pull for nostalgia, so it was just the perfect opportunity and it didn’t work out.”

While the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 hit has received mixed reviews, it has given birth to the Independence Day My Street website, which allows users to enter their street and watch it be destroyed by an alien apocalypse. Several hours of amusement.

Will Smith reportedly passed down Independence Day 2 in favor of Suicide Squad. And it’s possible that Will Smith dodged a bullet.  Independence Day 2 reportedly failed at the box office, according to sources. Independence Day 2 only made $41.6 million, a far cry from the original’s $100 million opening weekend.
