Zendaya traveled to Puerto Vallarta earlier this month to pose for a cover for the magazine Modeliste. The subsequent photo shoot appeared to have gone as expected until she viewed some of the photos.

“Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19 year old hips and torso quite manipulated,” she said on Instagram Tuesday night, showing a photo of her already-slender figure that had been de-curved and slimmed down. “These are the things that make women self conscious, that create the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have.”

“Anyone who knows who I am knows I stand for honest and pure self love. So I took it upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it.”

By Thursday afternoon, her post received over 665,000 likes.

She then went back into her post and changed it to thank the magazine for removing the manipulated photographs and ‘fixing’ the retouching problem.

She said, “Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing this retouch issue,”

Editor-in-Chief Amy McCabe said in an online message on Thursday that she was withdrawing the magazine to “have the images restored to their original, natural state.”

“Upon review of the final edited images which had been submitted to us by an independent editing company, together, as a collaboration between myself, Zendaya and her parents, we concluded that the images had been retouched to an extent that was not acceptable and not true to the values and ideals we represent and promote in our publication.”

“I, therefore, made the executive decision to immediately pull the issue in order to have this rectified and have the images restored to their original, natural state which will reflect the true beauty and radiance of Zendaya. We look forward to sharing these shortly upon the issue’s re-release.”

The rising fashion star has never taken criticism lying down, and she frequently confronts people who humiliate her or her family in public. When some Internet trolls attacked Zendaya’s parents for being “ugly,” towards the end of the summer, the Disney star replied with a passionate defense.

“First I’m gonna pray for you,” she wrote. “While you’re so concerned about what my parents look like, please know that these are two of the most selfless people in the world. They have chosen to spend their entire life, not worried about trivial things such as looks and insulting people’s parents on Twitter, but instead became educators who have dedicated their lives to teaching, cultivating and filling young shallow mind. (One of the most important yet underpaid jobs we have).”

Zendaya is known for her role in the Disney Channel sitcom “K.C. Undercover” and her self-titled album, which she released in 2013. In the same year, she made history as the youngest-ever participant on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars”
