Selena Gomez talks being called ‘fat’

Selena Gomez received criticism for her weight earlier this year after posting a photo of herself in a bikini while on vacation. The singer was shocked because it was the first time she had ever been called “fat.”

Selena discussed the offensive remarks during her Friday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Selena acknowledged, “Yeah, it was the first time I’d ever been called fat.”

“But it was weird because it’s not just, ‘Oh, she’s fat.’ It’s like, ‘She’s a mess. She’s gone off the deep end.’ I’m like, because I’m on a vacation wearing a bathing suit? Actually, technically, that is a little too small for me, but I didn’t care.”

She continued, “That’s so degrading,” in reference to being chastised for her weight.

She didn’t sit down and accept it. Instead, she published the image herself to let everyone know that she was pleased with how she looked.

“I don’t what them to win. It’s so annoying when I see it all over the place and everybody thinks they can bring me down “she claims. “So my immediate response was I’m gonna post a picture and I’m like ‘I’m happy with me ya’ll’ and that was going to be the story the next day.”

“I wasn’t going to let that be the story. That wasn’t the story.”

Nobody should have to deal with being torn apart and labeled obese on top of having to spend their life under scrutiny.

Selena did acknowledge that all the negativity got to her when ET caught up with her at New York Fashion Week last month, though. Selena confessed, “I actually had never experienced it before.”

“I couldn’t even imagine what my fans or kids go through at school — it’s just so difficult and awful.”

She continued, “I want them to know it’s OK.”

When Selena makes an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday, she goes into more detail on why she kept her lupus diagnosis a secret for three years, despite rumors that she was receiving treatment for an addiction.  She tells host Ellen DeGeneres that’s when she discovered it, adding, “I mean that’s when I found it, and I think it was just very complicated because I didn’t understand and then that was something that I did want to keep private until my whole life suddenly wasn’t private.”

But with the Friday morning release of Selena’s brand-new album, Revival, it finally became the ideal chance for her to be honest about everything, thus her revival.

“So it was my moment,” she says. “I’m really honestly able to relate to people and I get it.”

However, who can contest Selena’s current appearance? She dazzled in a seductive, high-cut black one-piece while swimming in Miami Beach late last month.

Selena was a good sport about being startled by the host not once, but twice, during their open conversation.
