On Monday, Samuel L. Jackson chastised a Los Angeles entertainment reporter for mistaking him for Laurence Fishburne.

Samuel L. Jackson had a heated exchange with KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin while promoting his latest action film, “RoboCop,” when the journalist appeared to confuse Jackson with “The Matrix” actor.

“Did you get a lot of reaction from that Super Bowl commercial?”  Rubin inquired, ostensibly in reference to Fishburne’s “Matrix”-themed Super Bowl commercial.

“What Super Bowl commercial?” Jackson queried, puzzled, before finally putting two and two together.

Rubin glanced away from the camera, perplexed. He admitted his error right away, but Jackson seemed undeterred.

“You’re as crazy as the people on Twitter. I’m not Laurence Fishburne,” Jackson said, his voice raised.

“We don’t all look alike! We may all be black and famous but we don’t all look alike,” said Jackson. “There’s more than one black guy doing a commercial.”

He continued: “I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet?’ black guy. He’s the car black guy.

“Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy. You only hear his voice, though, so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne,” said the star, who was speaking live from Atlanta.

Rubin apologized many times, even smacking himself in the face in jest at one point.

“Let’s talk about Robocop,” he said. “Oh hell, no,” replied Jackson.

“There must be a very short line for your job,” he added.

The actor continued to chastise Rubin for his gaffe, asking whether he had difficulties distinguishing between Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton, his co-stars.

“You do know who they all are though, right? Just in case they have some of them on the show. Do some work. Do some research. Make sure you don’t confuse them with those other white actors,” he said.

Rubin later apologized for his goof, calling it a “very amateur mistake” and stressing that he is aware of Samuel L. Jackson’s identity.

“First and foremost,” Rubin remarked on broadcast, “I do know who Samuel L. Jackson is.”

Rubin eventually apologized in a more official manner.

“I indicated to Samuel that I’d seen him during the Super Bowl, and he thought that I had confused him with the commercial Laurence Fishburne had done for a car company. Of course a ‘Captain America’ ad had also run during the Super Bowl, but I immediately felt so dumb, I didn’t bring that up — and he gave me the shellacking that was well deserved,” the reporter explained.

“I pride myself on the fact that, unlike a lot of people who do this kind of work, more often than not, I really do know what I’m talking about but I didn’t 30 minutes ago. And I’m really embarrassed about it, and I very much apologize to Samuel L. Jackson and anyone else who was offended by what was a very amateur mistake.”
