There aren’t many things Madonna hasn’t accomplished in her illustrious career, but the singer regrets passing up the opportunity to play a part in one of the most well-known movies of all time.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show to promote her Paramount+ concert special, Madame X, the singer discussed all that.

Fallon asked Madonna about some of the alleged film roles that she had declined, such as Catwoman in Batman Returns and Nomi Malone in Showgirls. She didn’t mind passing on Showgirls, but she did feel bad about skipping the “fierce” Catwoman role.

Michelle Pfeiffer got the role after Madonna turned it down.

Even worse, Madonna said, “I also turned down the role in The Matrix. Can you believe that? I wanted to kill myself.”

Carrie-Anne Moss eventually got the female lead role that Madonna was reportedly offered.

“Poor Madonna,” Fallon jokingly replied.

“That’s like one of the best movies ever made,” she added. “A teeny-tiny part of me regrets just that one moment in my life.”

The Matrix centers on a hacker called Neo (Reeves) who gets trapped in a virtual world. The sci-fi movie was a hit and grossed $171.5 million domestically and $466.3 million globally. It also earned multiple awards.

Madonna also said that she is penning a film based on her life. She said, “The reason I’m doing it is a bunch of people have tried to write movies about me, but they’re always men.”

The pop diva spoke up about one of her early occupations as she talked more about some of her previous choices.

“One of my first jobs in Manhattan was at Dunkin’ Donuts,” Madonna said, laughing. “I was fired for playing with jelly.”

The famous pop artist also promoted her brand-new “Madame X” documentary, which was released yesterday and details her most recent “Madame X” tour in support of her 14th studio album of the same name.
