Adele has spoken about her losing weight and how the reactions to it “disappointed” and “hurt.” her.

Adele addressed the issue in her forthright November cover story for Vogue, in which she discusses the objectification of her body, battling anxiety, her relationship with fitness, the demands of fame, going through a divorce, therapy, and working on her new album.

“My body’s been objectified my entire career. It’s not just now,” she began, acknowledging that she understood why it was “shocking” for many fans.

Adele claimed in early 2020 that she shed roughly 100 pounds after exercising for two years.

However, some people criticized the singer for being “too skinny” at the time, while others said she shouldn’t have felt compelled to lose weight.

“I understand why some women especially were hurt. Visually I represented a lot of women,” Adele remarked, while also emphasizing that she is still the “same person.” All of this meant that the ongoing discussion among women — including those who claim she’s “too skinny” and rumors that she was forced to do it — was one of the most difficult things for her to deal with.

She went on to say that the worst aspect of the predicament was: “The most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body. I was very fucking disappointed with that. That hurt my feelings.”

Despite the criticism, Adele embraced her body and natural curves on the November 2021 cover of British Vogue, wearing a gorgeous yellow corset gown. Inside the magazine’s spread, she also showed off her new style in a sleek black gown.

Adele also explained why she decided to lose weight in the first place. Back in 2019, the singer was struggling with a lot of stress and worry as she went through numerous big life changes—personally (divorce from Simon Konecki), professionally (slowly regaining her voice following vocal chord surgery in 2017), and astrologically (hitting her Saturn return).

While many individuals “had to face a lot of their demons” while isolated and in lockdown during the epidemic, Adele noted, “I did that the year before.”

Adele has been performing tough weight-lifting and circuit-training sessions every day for three years and counting, sometimes twice a day if her anxiety is severe.

She has also concentrated on being stronger in the expectation that this strength would flow over into her mental and emotional health. Adele explained, “It was never about losing weight. I thought, If I can make my body physically strong, and I can feel that and see that, then maybe one day I can make my emotions and my mind physically strong.” She began with her core: “I have a bad back and I had a C-section,” Adele said. “So I had just nothing going on down there.”

Adele also mentioned that having a decent guy in her life, alluding to her boyfriend Rich Paul, has helped her retain a happy mindset, as has her favorite rosé, Whispering Angel.

“Rich just incredibly arrived,” she told Vogue. “I don’t feel anxious or nervous or frazzled. It’s quite the opposite. It’s wild — and there is no second-guessing. I’m a 33-year-old divorced mother of a son, who’s actually in charge.”
