No Time To Die has officially arrived in theaters, marking Daniel Craig’s fifth and last stint as James Bond. Since Craig is saying farewell to the role he’s played since 2006, fans of the franchise are keen to find out who will portray the next 007 in the series. Of course, Captain Marvel’s Lashana Lynch already fills that position in the new film, which has fans wondering whether she’ll receive her own spin-off in the Bond world. Ana de Armas’ Paloma, who makes a brief but notable cameo in No Time To Die, has also been discussed. Despite these strong performances, producer Barbara Broccoli recently told Fandango that there are no plans for a spin-off.

“The success of these films is the central character,” Broccoli remarked. “We have not done [a spinoff] in the past, and I don’t think we have any plans to do it in the future. But who knows?”

Instead of exploring No Time To Die spinoffs focusing on Lashana Lynch’s Nomi or Ana de Armas’ Paloma, the James Bond franchise’s future is likely to include a revamp. According to sources, the search for the next James Bond will begin in 2022. This may not contain spinoffs for the cast of No Time To Die, although certain characters may return. Judi Dench’s M remained with the franchise during the changeover from Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig, therefore the No Time To Die supporting cast members may return.

Craig recently stated that he is not interested in providing any recommendations for the next Bond film, but he did tell Radio Times that he does not believe the role should be portrayed by a woman.

“The answer to that is very simple,” Craig stated. “There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, for a woman?”

Regardless of fan wishes and desires, Broccoli and Wilson control the James Bond Aston Martin and will only take the franchise where they believe it will succeed. And, for the time being, it looks that the franchise will rely exclusively on the charm of 007, surrounded by a cast that will remain in the background.

Broccoli has stated on BBC Radio 4 that they will not rush into Bond 26. That is, despite years of online speculation, there are no frontrunners or anybody signed on.

“We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”

There was a lot of conjecture earlier this year about who may portray the next Bond, with names like Tom Hardy, James Norton, Idris Elba, Sam Heughan, Richard Madden, Jack Lowden, Cillian Murphy, and Regé-Jean Page being mentioned.

Cary Fukunaga is directing No Time to Die, which he co-wrote with Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Scott Z.Burns, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Rami Malek, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Lashana Lynch, Jeffrey Wright, Lea Seydoux, and Billy Magnussen feature in the picture. Christoph Waltz reprises his role as the evil Blofeld.
