In the wake of an increase in cases throughout the country, Arnold Schwarzenegger had some harsh words for those who fail to follow federal COVID-19 standards.

The former California governor had a term for anti-maskers in an interview with CNN’s Bianna Golodryga and former National Security Council employee Alexander Vindam this week.

Schwarzenegger expressed his anger with (1) the widespread coronavirus disinformation and (2) Americans who believe their actions have no impact on others. “A year and a half later, we are still in a mess and there are still people living in denial, there are still people that don’t believe in masks, there are still people out there who say, ‘Well, we don’t have to do social distancing,‘ and all this kind of stuff. And I just think that people ought to be reminded over and over that the experts are saying that we have to wear masks, especially when you go indoors, the experts are saying that you should still wash your hands regularly, you should still do social distancing, especially now with this new comeback of the virus, which is the fourth round now, that we have to really go and work together,” the Terminator turned California governor turned unlikely voice of reason said. “Look, I am an expert on how to build a bicep… there’s no one who knows more about a bicep than I do because I studied this issue for 50 years. And the same is also with the virus. There are people out there who are experts that studied this year after year after year… Dr. [Anthony] Fauci [has studied viruses] for his entire life, why would you not believe someone like that?”

Schwarzenegger stated, “There is a virus here — it kills people. And the only way we prevent it is get vaccinated, get masks, to do social distancing, washing your hands all the time, and not just to think about ‘well my freedom is being kind of disturbed here.’ No, screw your freedom. Because with freedom comes obligations and responsibilities. You cannot just say, ‘I have the right to X, Y, and Z.’ When you affect other people then it gets serious.”

“We have to come together rather than fighting and always just saying, ‘According to my principles this is a free country and I have the freedom to wear no mask,’” Schwarzenegger said. “Yeah, you have the freedom to wear no mask, but you know something? You’re a schmuck for not wearing a mask.”

Schwarzenegger, a Republican, has been vociferous about following COVID-19 rules and precautions during the epidemic, even delaying his Arnold Sports Festival until in March 2020.

Schwarzenegger is the latest celebrity to come out against those who oppose wearing masks and receiving the Coronavirus vaccine in the United States. Jennifer Aniston’s interview with InStyle magazine at the beginning of the month went viral, with her saying that “it’s a real shame” that “there’s a large group of people who are anti-vaxxers or just don’t listen to the facts.”

“I’ve just lost a few people in my weekly routine who have refused or did not disclose (whether or not they had been vaccinated), and it was unfortunate,” Aniston said. “I feel it’s your moral and professional obligation to inform, since we’re not all podded up and being tested every single day. It’s tricky because everyone is entitled to their own opinion — but a lot of opinions don’t feel based in anything except fear or propaganda.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 61.3 percent of Americans aged 18 and up have received full vaccination.

Schwarzenegger was most recently seen in the film “Terminator: Dark Fate,” reprising his most renowned role. The actor’s next project is a role in David Sandberg’s “King Fury 2,” which will be released in 2022.
