Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed how he duped Sylvester Stallone into acting in the terrible 1992 film Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.

After spending the most of his early cinematic career competing against Stallone, who had already established himself as a Hollywood action star, the Terminator veteran decided to take advantage of their heated rivalry when he came across the script for the 1992 buddy cop comedy.

Schwarzenegger recently made an appearance at Beyond Fest 2017 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the films Predator and The Running Man. During a Q&A session, Schwarzenegger discussed his conflict with Stallone in great detail.

The Predator star remarked of their spat, “It wasn’t pretty.”

“We were attacking each other in the press relentlessly. We called each other names and called out our weak points, and it was so competitive.

“It became so silly that all of a sudden it became a competition about who has the most muscular body. So I said, ‘Sly, forget about that now. Because there’s only one seven-time Mr. Olympia, and it’s me!’

“But then he had to use bigger weapons. So then it was a competition of who had the biggest gun, and then who uses the biggest knife.

“Do you remember the Rambo knife became so big it was like a sword? No one has a knife like that! But Stallone had one built, so I had to come in with a bigger one.”

Every aspect of their careers was a competition.

“Who has the most unique killings? Who kills more people on screen? Who makes more money at the box office?,” said the Terminator actor.

“Who has less body fat when he goes into production? All of this sh*t started happening and it didn’t stop. It was unbelievable.”

When Schwarzenegger was invited to feature in an upcoming film called Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot in the early 1990s, he read the screenplay and saw an opportunity to outdo his opponent.

“So I went in – this was during our war – I said to myself, ‘I’m going to leak out (the news) that I have tremendous interest,'” the actor explained. “I know the way it works in Hollywood. I would then ask for a lot of money. So then they’d say, ‘Let’s go give it to Sly. Maybe we can get him for cheaper.’ So they told Sly, ‘Schwarzenegger’s interested. Here’s the press clippings. He’s talked about that. If you want to grab that one away from him, that is available.’ And he went for it! He totally went for it.”

“A week later, I heard about it, ‘Sly is signing now to do this movie.’ And I said, [pumps fist] ‘Yes!'”

Stallone revealed on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon in 2014 that he starred in Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot and Rhinestone because he was pressed by studio execs who informed him that if he passed, the role would go to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The movie was a flop. “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot is one of those movies so dimwitted, so utterly lacking in even the smallest morsel of redeeming value, that you stare at the screen in stunned disbelief,” said film critic Roger Ebert at the time.

After working together for the first edition of The Expendables movie franchise in 2010, Schwarzenegger and Stallone have put their disputes behind them and are now buddies, and Schwarzenegger couldn’t be happier.
