Arnold Schwarzenegger Plays POTUS in first look at Kung Fury 2

Current law precludes Arnold Schwarzenegger from ever reaching the zenith of his political career by becoming President of the United States, but those laws don’t apply in the universe of David Sandberg’s Kung Fury.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has posted a photo of himself in the Oval Office as a cigar-chomping Commander in Chief, the first look from Kung Fury 2, which has been filming in Bulgaria and Germany recently.

After serving as the 38th governor of California from 2003 to 2011, Schwarzenegger has a lot of expertise with politics, so playing the president in a film shouldn’t be too difficult for him. When the sequel was announced earlier this year, many people were startled to see Schwarzenegger’s name associated to it. The actor, on the other hand, is a major admirer of David Sandberg, the creator of Kung Fury.

Schwarzenegger announced that he is now filming Kung Fury 2 in Munich in a Reddit post, nearly four years after first meeting Sandberg and seeing the original Kung Fury short film.

“For those of you who want to get into the movies, he’s proof that if you have the vision and you work non-stop and keep hustling away, you can do it,” Schwarzenegger said, adding that he’s proud of Sandberg for getting his “hilarious vision” done. Take a look at the image below.

Schwarzenegger didn’t appear in the first Kung Fury film in 2015, but he has said that he would appear in the sequel since he “loved” the first. He didn’t want to give too much away about the narrative, but he did say that everyone on site was “laughing constantly on set” already.

In the movie, Sandberg portrays the titular Kung Fury. Kung Fury is a martial artist who gets bitten by a snake and hit by lightning, imbuing him with a new form of kung fu and transforming him into the prophesied chosen one. With his army of Thundercops, heroes from many eras, Kung Fury defends 1985 Miami in Kung Fury 2. They hold the armies of Kung Fuhrer, aka Adolf Hitler, at bay by working together.

The feature-length sequel to the legendary 2015 short — a purposely ludicrous tribute to ’80s martial arts and police action flicks that became a crowdfunded success, screened in Cannes, and gained over 40 million YouTube views — Kung Fury 2 stars Michael Fassbender, David Hasselhoff, Alexandra Shipp, and Michael Fassbender in a bizarre thriller involving Kung Fu cops, time-traveling Hitlers, machine gun-wielding Vikings, and more.

The official synopsis for Kung Fury 2 reads:

“1985 Miami is kept safe under the watchful eye of Kung Fury and his Thundercops, the ultimate police force assembled from across history to defeat the villainous Kung Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler. After the tragic death of a Thundercop sees the group disband, a mysterious villain emerges from the shadows to aid in the Fuhrer’s quest to attain the ultimate weapon. Kung Fury must travel through space and time to save his friends, defend the prestigious Miami Kung Fu Academy and defeat evil once and for all.”

One of the most often asked questions from fans was how Schwarzenegger met David Sandberg in the first place, which the actor answered. They have a lot in common, as it turns out. Schwarzenegger explains:

“I saw the original like a lot of you. That’s why I say David is an inspiration. If he tried to sell this script I think people would laugh at him. But he went out there, got fans excited and made something to prove he could do it. It’s a serious success story.”
