Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello responded to rumors that they kiss like fish by uploading a video of themselves kissing… like fish.

The singers acknowledged their romance early this year after being caught locking lips in a restaurant in July.

The playful kissing video comes after Twitter users suggested they “kiss like fish” and look “weird” while doing so.

“So we, erm, we saw like on Twitter and stuff, you guys saying stuff about the way we’re kissing, and how it looks weird and that we kiss like fish.” Shawn says in a video posted to his Instagram account. Camila agrees calmly, nodding and saying, “Yeah, it really hurt our feelings.”

Shawn goes on to say, “We just wanted to show you how we really kiss…”

Then they both simply went for it, pretending to kiss in a horrible way.

Camila’s tongue gets into Shawn’s nose at one point, and he licks her entire face.

The smiling duo draw back apart when Camila busts out laughing.

Yes, watching the video is awkward, but that’s the point. The vocalists were sending a message to trolls that they don’t care what they think, no matter how absurd or terrible it is.

The video has now been shared thousands of times online, eliciting a mixed response from admirers who aren’t sure what to make of it.

Some individuals realize they were kidding, but the kiss will stay with them forever. Others, on the other hand, thought it nasty and believe they should not have uploaded the video. Others appear to be unaware that they are retaliating against detractors. Even some Cabello and Mendes fans are backing them up in their decision, especially since they’ve been chastised for their kissing style.

“Experts say they’re still “just friends,” one said, while another added, “Great form.”

“MY KIDS I CANT LOOK,” musician Andrew Watt joked.

“This is forever engrained in my brain,” another admirer added.

Cabello previously objected to a headline implying that she and her partner kissed like two characters in a romantic comedy.

“I think if you’re smooching, you got to smooch like you’re in a rom-com,” she stated on SiriusXM’s Hits 1 radio station. “What, do you want to smooch like you’re in a boring drama? No!”

Cabello has stated that she will not discuss their relationship because she wishes to “protect” it.

“I never want to open the door for people to feel like they are involved. I want it to be mine and [his]. That’s why I’m so tight-lipped about it: because I want to protect it,” she explained.
