Shawn Mendes is still dealing with the fallout from his separation from Camila Cabello in November 2021.

The 23-year-old popstar was in a relationship with the ‘Havana’ hitmaker for nearly two years. The duo issued a statement at the time, announcing that things were coming to an end.

“Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever ❤️ . We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends,” they wrote in a joint statement.

He has now stated that the reality of being alone has only recently dawned on him, and he is unsure where to turn when he is “on the edge.”

“I think that’s the reality that kind of hit me. It’s like, ‘Oh, I’m on my own now,’” the 23-year-old singer remarked in a new Instagram video.

“Now I feel like finally, like, I’m actually on my own, and I hate that. That’s my reality, you know?”

Mendes said that he didn’t understand “all this s–t that comes after” a breakup while sitting at a piano and spoke frankly to the camera.

“Which is like, ‘Who do I call when I’m, like, in a panic attack? Who do I call when I’m like, f–king, on the edge?’” he said.

It comes just weeks after Camila, 25, admitted that her relationship with the ‘Stiches’ singer had left her “doing therapy” as she tried to balance her personal and professional lives.

She stated, “And same thing with those years that we were together. My focus was just, how can I live a happy life and be in a healthy, happy relationship? I was doing therapy a lot. My focus really has shifted. And even now while I’m in promo mode, honestly, if I’m not having fun, what’s the point? I think as I get older, yeah, the priorities shift. And I feel like that was that way for both of us. Because we both started so young too, we’re really learning how to be healthy adults. And that sometimes means not having your number one focus be your career. And that’s okay.”

Following the separation, the “In My Blood” singer had stated that he was having a “hard time” with social media.

In January, he commented on Instagram, “I’m having a little bit of a hard time with social media at the moment and just kind of my relationship with it. But I have lots of people sending me videos and telling me what’s going on.”

Shawn started the talk about their breaking up in January, according to a source close to Camila.

Camila was “very upset” over the divorce, they told E! News, but she “agreed” that it was definitely the best thing to do.

“It was really hard for a few days,” they said, “but she has been spending a lot of time with friends and keeping busy,” before adding, “She has a huge support system and is feeling renewed now.”
