Playing identical twins is a delight and a challenge for any actress, and Michelle Monaghan is entering the twin club for Netflix’s psychological thriller Echoes. Executive producers and co-showrunners are Brian Yorkey of 13 Reasons Why and Quinton Peeples of Runaways. The seven-episode series is the first product of Netflix’s creative collaboration with Yorkey.

Collider reports that Monaghan will play the twins, Leni and Gina,  who have covertly switched their lives since childhood. Even as adults, the two have shared their two distinct houses, their spouses, and Leni’s child. However, when it comes to temperament, they are totally opposite. While Leni is satisfied with her modest life with her childhood sweetheart and their kid, Gina is a free-spirited person who fled to Los Angeles and achieved to popularity by writing about the darker sides of her childhood. The sisters’ carefully crafted secret comes crashing down one day when one of them goes missing, leaving the other’s life in shambles.

The actor, who is ecstatic about her new endeavour, also revealed the news on Twitter. The Eagle Eye star recently took to Twitter to express how eager she is to play the dual role in Echoes. She penned, “You know what they say… two is better than one. Excited to bring Leni and Geni to life. #Echoes @Netflix”.

In addition to Monaghan, several other actors have notably played twin parts, including Armie Hammer in The Social Network, Hayley Mills and Lindsay Lohan in the Parent Trap flicks, and Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black (playing more than a dozen clones of herself).

Monaghan has been in the profession for decades, but she is frequently relegated to supporting roles such as “the wife” or “the girlfriend.” I’m sure she’ll go into this part with zeal, since she finally gets a substantial leading role. She was most recently seen in Casey Affleck’s thriller Every Breath You Take and the soft remake The Craft: Legacy.
