Drew Barrymore recalls the day when she appeared on television to dazzle talk show host David Letterman.

During the Late Show with David Letterman in 1995, the actress famously disclosed more information than the presenter had anticipated.

In honor of David’s birthday, Drew, who was 20 at the time, sprang up on his desk and pulled up her top, giving us one of the most enduring late-night show performances.

Prior to the Sept. 14 premiere of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” the “50 First Dates” actress attended “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Barrymore now says of the infamous film, “I believe if there’s one thing I’ve learned in a very long life in front of people is there is a line,” in a new interview with CBS Sunday Morning. “There is TMI. And I kind of know what that line is, and it’s a feeling.”

“I pushed the limits a lot, many different times in my life,” she said. “And I’m very lucky, I know that. I tested, I pushed, probably too far many a time.”

“I at least tried to meet that blessing with having learned something,” she added.

When asked if she has spoken to Letterman or any other hosts about how to step into her new gig, Drew said, “All of the above, actually. They all say pace yourself.”

“Which, of course, I in my stubbornness was like, ‘I’ve been working since I was 11 months old! You don’t even know my work ethic.’”

Her own rocky childhood has also had an impact on how she parents her two daughters, 7-year-old Olive and 6-year-old Frankie; their father is ex-husband Will Kopelman, from whom she split in 2016.

“I wanna be all about, you know, the pillars of appropriateness and decorum,” Barrymore says. “And I don’t lie to my kids. I’m, like, I had to find my way here. So, yeah, I’ve lived a lot of different lives, and this is what’s important to me now. But, my kids have inspired me to be the best person I have ever been in my life, and I thank them every single day for that.”

After starring in Steven Spielberg’s 1982 classic E.T. when she was only seven years old, the actor went on to play leading roles in other iconic movies including Scream (1996), The Wedding Singer (1998), and Charlie’s Angels (2000).

Most recently, Barrymore starred in the horror-comedy Netflix series Santa Clarita Diet which aired for three seasons before it came to an end last year.

The actor is launching her own daytime talk show titled The Drew Barrymore Show. The first episode airs today (14 September).

With just one day to go before she embarks on a new career in daytime TV — during a pandemic, no less — the budding talk show host says she’s making the most of the second chances she’s received.

“I’ve also had my career go away at, like, 13,” she notes. “I mean, if that doesn’t give you some perspective and gratitude for every job you get, nothing will. I’m like, I am working!! This is amazing!!”
