Lena Dunham is addressing rumors around a viral moment she shared with Brad Pitt.

Dunham appeared on Andy Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live” to discuss the moment when she seemed to try to kiss Pitt at the red carpet premiere of their 2019 film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

Dunham stated, as reported by E! News early Tuesday, “I don’t know if you remember there was a sort of awkward photo taken of the two of us. Well, the way the internet read it was I had somehow physically accosted him causing him a great deal of stress.” Dunham pointed out that the reading was incorrect.

She remarked of the London premiere, “I would never force a kiss on Brad Pitt. I respect him far too much as an artist and a friend.”

Dunham stated that the Oscar winner, 56, saw her “nervousness” during the premiere in July 2019 and offered her to hang out with him one-on-one later that evening.

“Later that night, because he knew I felt nervous, he took me into a room and we secretly ate pizza and I told him I like his ring and he gave it to me,” Dunham explained, “And every time I wear it, something amazing happens.”

Dunham also described another occasion when Pitt, 56, helped her relax. They had met prior to filming Once Upon a Time…, which helped them when they began filming their sequence together. Pitt went on to win his first acting Academy Award for his work in the film.

“Well, I actually had the pleasure of knowing him a little bit previously, so I wasn’t going in totally blind. But when I showed up to set, I didn’t have some major megastar part, I was in a really great ensemble of girls so I expected, you know, a friendly hello from Brad. And I think what happened was the best thing that’s maybe ever happened to me.”

“He was doing a scene where he was parking a car and he’s supposed to get out and look around, and he looked around and saw me at the edge of frame and came over and picked me up and spun me around,” Dunham continued. “And it was like in one of those movies where the nerd shows up at the prom and the hottest guy at school is like, ‘Would you care to dance?’ ”

“He’s a truly kind person who can read the room. And I was super nervous because I was around so many idols of mine and he made me feel pretty cool.”

Pitt helped Dunham celebrate her 33rd birthday a few months before the notorious images were shot, and the two posed for photos together.

“This year I’m… wait for it… happy. And so grateful for where I am, who I am, and everyone who has helped me on my journey to health and sobriety,” she captioned the series of photos.

The Stand-In, starring Drew Barrymore and Ellie Kemper, is Dunham’s next project. COVID-19 came in the way of the Jamie Babbit-directed film’s April debut, which was initially scheduled for the Tribeca Film Festiva.
