Matt Damon’s record-breaking $16.75 million penthouse. The New York Post reports that it is the most expensive apartment in Brooklyn, a neighborhood already known for its high-priced real estate.

The Standish, a historic beaux arts structure once known as the Standish Arms hotel, houses the 6,218-square-foot property on the 11th and 12th floors. If you’re a fan of Superman, you may recall Clark Kent residing in apartment 5H at the Standish Arms in Metropolis. The name of the hotel was also adopted by famed novelist Arthur Miller as the location where Willy Loman, the key character in Death of a Salesman, conducts an affair. The structure, which was designed as an apartment hotel by renowned Brooklyn architect Frank S. Lowe and finished in 1903, was purchased by the Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1981 and sold to an investment group in 2007. It was purchased for $60 million by Westbrook Partners and DDG Partners in 2014 and renovated into 33 premium flats.

According to city property records, Damon and his wife, Lucianna Barroso, paid $16.75 million for the apartment via an LLC registered by his business manager, Gary Kriss, according to the New York Post. The transaction broke the record established by the Cobble Hill townhouse at 177 Pacific Street, however it may not be the most expensive in the borough for much longer. The penthouse in Quay Tower is set to close for roughly $20 million, according to reports.

The website for the apartment complex promises residents the greatest in contemporary appliances and comforts throughout the multi-million dollar residences.

According to a previous listing, the kitchen has ‘Kitchen cabinetry in a refined Shaker-style aesthetic’ and is ‘enhanced with premium Bertazzoni-Italia and Bosch appliances and natural brass Fantini fixtures.’

‘Bathrooms feature rain showers, travertine and mosaic accents, and Fantini fixtures in natural brass’ reads the listing. Undermount sinks and freestanding tubs in select residences add an extra element of simple, elegant practicality.’

In recent years, celebrities such as Daniel Craig, Olivia Wilde, Michelle Williams, Rose Byrne, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Emily Mortimer have moved to downtown Brooklyn in search of the slightly more relaxed, kid-friendly pace of life that the borough has to offer.

The new apartment has a 3,366-square-foot patio with panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan, the Brooklyn and Williamsburg Bridges, and the Freedom Tower. The apartment’s layout is unknown, but the Standish website advertises Bertazzoni Italia and Bosch appliances, as well as bathrooms with rain showers, travertine, and natural brass Fantini fixtures.

According to Real Estalker, other features within the building include an elegant lobby made of porcelain and marble, a playground for children, a workout center, and a full-time doorman and concierge.

Damon apparently expressed interest in the property in 2016, when it was built by merging three smaller flats. It was advertised for $16.445 million at the time.

Another attraction is that it is adjacent to the famous St. Ann’s school, where Damon’s three youngest daughters Isabella, 12, Gia, 10, and Stella may attend. Damon is also the stepfather to Luciana’s 20-year-old daughter Alexia Barroso.

Residents should not expect to see much of Mr. Damon in the near future. The Bourne series’ actor will play the iconic Carroll Shelby in the forthcoming thriller Ford v. Ferrari, with Christian Bale. It will be released in cinemas on June 28.
