Olivia Wilde has stated that she was passed over for the role of Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCapriowife )’s in The Wolf of Wall Street because she was “too old”

During an appearance on “The Howard Stern Show” to promote her new HBO music drama “Vinyl,” Wilde was asked whether she had been denied a part because she was too pretty.

“No, I don’t think so,” the 32-year-old said. “The funniest thing I heard recently was, I had heard for a part that I was too sophisticated,” she said after auditioning at the age of 28. “I thought, ‘Oh, that sounds nice.’ I like that feedback. I didn’t get the part because I’m a very sophisticated person.”

“And then I found out later that they actually said ‘old.’”

Wilde continued: “I want to make a translation sheet for Hollywood that’s all the feedback your agents give you and what it really means.”

The actress then revealed that she auditioned for the 2013 film “Wolf of Wall Street” and was told she was “too old” for the part of Teresa Petrillo, Leonardo DiCaprio’s character’s first wife, who was eventually played by Cristin Milioti (now 30), or the character Naomi Lapaglia, played by Margot Robbie (now 25). The characters were based on actual individuals, since they were derived from Jordan Belfort’s biography of the same name.

Wilde also stated that she does not hold a grudge against the directors for their casting choice.

“I have some ability to cut off emotionally — the second I don’t get a role, it’s dead to me,” she explained. “It shows that if you don’t get something — job interview, whatever you do for a living — it might lead to something else.”

Wilde also stated that she believed Robbie was “perfect” for the character, adding that she “kicked so much a** in the movie.”

Wilde’s good-natured candor about the film industry is pleasant, but what makes her even more remarkable is her dedication to supporting other women throughout it all. She rushed to Twitter after the interview to stress that there are no bad feelings and that she admired Robbie’s depiction of Naomi. “My point about not being cast in ‘Wolf o W-Street’ was that we have to trust the process because I ended up with my dream job on ‘Vinyl.’ And my interview went on to say that Margot Robbie crushed that role like a sexy ninja and I LOVED her in it.” While we still live in a society where sexism and ageism are prevalent in Hollywood, the least women can do is support one another whenever possible—which is precisely what makes Olivia such a good role model.

She also discussed her breakout role on the long-running medical drama House. “We did so many of them, and it was like such hard work for so long, and I think I got lazy. You can get so wrapped up in memorising that dialogue that you forget to act, you’re just reciting.”

“So that’s what I catch myself doing. I’ll see it on at like the gym or the airport or something, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god.’ I’m literally just clinging to the dialogue. You can see my eyes like twitching.”
