Dr. Mehmet Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon turned daytime TV star, has declared that he will run for Senate in Pennsylvania to replace outgoing Senator Pat Toomey. On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” the women on the panel were completely perplexed by the move.

“The TV doctor Mehmet Oz wants to be the next Senator of Pennsylvania,” Whoopi Goldberg said. “Let me close my lips. It’s pretty clear whose vote he’s courting when he went on Sean Hannity last night.”

“What happened to him?” Joy Behar inquired after a videotape of Oz’s Fox News interview on Tuesday night was played. “What happened to him? He’s gone over to the dark side. Oh my god.”

Sunny Hostin believes Oz “took a turn… with COVID in particular,” highlighting his statements about children returning to school in April as particularly troubling.

Oz claimed in April of last year that it was more helpful to send the children back since we’d only lose two to three percent of them.

“It’s interesting, because we all know Dr. Oz. I’ve been on his show. We’ve all socialized with him. But I feel like he took a turn, but with COVID in particular,” Hostin said. “My thought was, you’re willing to sacrifice the lives of our children? Was he willing to sacrifice the lives of his children and his grandchildren?”

Whoopi Goldberg, the moderator, said that she believes he “turned before that,” but before she could go any further, Behar wanted to add a qualifier to her remarks.

“Can we say something good about him too? Because I know him a little bit. I’ve been to his house for dinner,” Behar said. “Somebody that we know was having a medical issue, I picked up the phone, I asked him ‘What should we do?’ He told you exactly who to call. He’s very, very, personally, a doll. This is some political aspiration he has that must be controlled. Mehmet, please, come back!”

Hostin concurred with Behar, expressing her dissatisfaction with Oz’s hard-left worldview.

“That’s what’s so confusing. He is, personally, he seems to be a nice person,” Hostin said. “But would a nice person sacrifice people’s children?”

“Yes! The will, lots of people have done that. We’ve seen governors suggest it, we’ve seen people suggest it,” Goldberg said. “Listen, this is about people’s health. This is not about whether you like the idea of a mandate or getting a shot — that has nothing to do with it. Kids going back to school deserve to be safe. If you, as a doctor and a physician, cannot see that? Then you’re not somebody I want to vote for, no matter how much I like you.”
