Whoopi Goldberg makes a lot of headlines because of things she says on The View, but this week her opinions on the show got slightly more viral than normal. This is because Goldberg expressed a contentious stance about The Holocaust not being about race, which her co-hosts vehemently disagreed with, prompting ABC to suspend her for two weeks. Since the program aired, several celebrities and TV personalities have weighed in, and Gina Carano can now be added to the list.

The former star of Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” took to Twitter to criticize ABC’s decision.

“I want to send blessings & love out to the Jewish community,” Gina wrote on the blue bird app on February 2. Last year she was fired from the “Star Wars” TV series due to political tweets about the Holocaust. She went on to say, comparing the situation to her own experience,”When I was being smeared, cancelled & misunderstood, it was a Jewish man @benshapiro who reached out & asked if I’d like to talk about it. Maybe @WhoopiGoldbergcould talk to Ben. Conversation over cancellation.”

“Two weeks to slow the double standards,” the former MMA fighter continued in a separate tweet.

During a debate on The View this week, Sister Act actor came under fire for claiming the Holocaust “wasn’t about race.” Instead, Whoopi contended that it was about ‘man’s inhumanity to man,’ for which she has subsequently apologized.

“Effective immediately, I am suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for her wrong and hurtful comments,” ABC News President Kim Godwin said in a statement following the uproar against the co-host.

“While Whoopi has apologized, I’ve asked her to take time to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments,” Godwin continued.

“The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities,” she said.

It may seem strange that the former MMA fighter would comment on something relating to The View, but ABC is owned by Disney, and the issue was relevant to the actress, who was previously fired following a remark she made about the Holocaust.

Gina was dismissed from The Mandalorian in February after allegedly making a comparison between living under a Republican government and being Jewish in Nazi Germany. The hashtag #FireGinaCarano trended on Twitter as a result of this.

In a statement at the time, a Lucasfilm representative said, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.  Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.” Lucasfilm had “been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and today was the final straw,” reports indicated at the time.

Meanwhile, Michelle Collins, Whoopi’s former co-host on The View, has backed the actress, saying her suspension should be viewed as a ‘learning moment.’
