From the moment their romance became public in 1998, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston made headlines. And that’s to be anticipated when a huge movie star and one of television’s most beloved performers pair up. Of course, the couple’s marriage dissolved in 2005, five years after they married, sparking yet another tabloid frenzy over who terminated it and why. While Aniston has stated that she still considers her marriage to Pitt to be a success, she has also shared her greatest regret from their time together.

Brad and Jen married while they were both young and in love, and their wedding is still considered one of the most lavish weddings of all time.

Jennifer put out everything she could find inside herself in a stunningly honest interview with Vanity Fair barely a year after her split from Brad. Several tragic facts were revealed, yet the actress avoided disparaging her ex-husband and escalating an already tense situation. Since the wounds were so raw, no one could blame her if she had gone the other way and tore into Brad.

Aniston also talked about some of her regrets from her previous marriage, admitting that she “would probably do a lot different.” She went on to say that, as a pair, she and Pitt didn’t have much time to spend together outside of their hectic schedules.

“I’d take more vacations—getting away from work, enjoying each other in different environments,” Aniston said. “But there was always something preventing it; either he was working or I was.”

Aniston acknowledged that she made mistakes as well, saying, “I wouldn’t give over so much of myself, which I did at times. I love taking care of people, and I definitely put his needs before mine sometimes… somewhere along the way, you sort of lose yourself.”

Though much has been made of the possible overlap between Pitt’s marriage to Aniston and his burgeoning connection with Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina Jolie, whom he eventually married and divorced, Aniston has stated that there was no one problem that led to their breakup.

“Relationships are complicated,” she told Vanity Fair, “whether they’re friendships, business relationships, or parent relationships. There are all these levels of growth—and when you stop growing together, that’s when the problems happen.”

“I still feel so lucky to have experienced it,” the Murder Mystery actress stated, adding that she will love Brad Pitt for the rest of her life. “I wouldn’t know what I know now if I hadn’t been married to Brad. I love Brad; I really love him. I will love him for the rest of my life. He’s a fantastic man. I don’t regret any of it, and I’m not going to beat myself up about it. We spent seven very intense years together; we taught each other a lot—about healing and about fun. We helped each other through a lot, and I really value that. It was a beautiful, complicated relationship.”

It’s no surprise that Brad and Jen are still friendly with each other and aren’t afraid to show their affection in public – despite the tabloids’ wild theories and rumors. We don’t know if they’ve found closure, but it’s reasonable to assume that they’re in a good place and have formed a nice relationship, which is more than one can hope for in such an insane situation.
