The countdown to Meghan and Harry’s baby’s birth has begun, with ongoing speculation as to what they will name their first born.

The odds of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex naming their baby girl after Prince Harry’s grandfather, who died earlier this year at the age of 99, have been cut by bookmakers.

Prince Harry and Meghan are said to be considering Philippa, the feminine equivalent of Philip, as a possible baby name, after honoring Prince Philip with their firstborn son.

Diana is the also favorite, according to Betfair, with odds of 4/1. What a wonderful homage it will be for Archie’s sister to be named after Princess Diana, Archie’s late grandmother.

Allegra is the second most popular name, with odds of 11/1, Isabella at 12/1, and Phillippa at 12/1 – a name that would honor Harry’s late grandfather, Prince Philip.

“The support for baby Philippa is showing no signs of slowing down, and we’ve been forced to trim the odds again that it’s the name for Harry and Meghan’s daughter,” Ladbrokes’ Jessica O’Reilly told People.

Meghan and Harry shocked bookmakers when they called their son Archie, despite the fact that Arthur, Charles, and Albert were the most expected names at the time.

Molly, Grace, and Ivy are among the other sweet names on the list, with odds of 14/1, 16/1, and 20/1, respectively. Artemis, Elanor, and Jeannie are three odd names that have been suggested.

Of course, royal fans expect Harry to name his daughter after his mother, Princess Diana, in some manner, similar to how Prince William named his daughter Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

Other royal names being discussed for baby Sussex number two include Alice, named after Prince Philip’s mother Princess Alice, and Victoria, named after Queen Victoria.

After giving birth to her first child in February with husband Jack Brooksbank, Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie named her first child after Philip.

August Philip Hawke Brooksbank is their son’s name.

Though Harry and Meghan have kept their baby names a secret, it’s possible that they’ll give their child a middle name that pays homage to the royal family.

However, amid tensions between the pair and the royals, it’s been reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may want to distinguish themselves from the royal family by choosing a name that has little to do with Harry’s monarchy connections.

Archie (a shortening of Archibald or Arthur) means real and brave, while Harrison was chosen as a tribute to dad Harry, meaning Harry’s son.

At the start of 2020, Harry and Meghan left their Frogmore Cottage home and regal responsibilities for a life in the United States, relocating to Los Angeles to become “financially independent.”

After confirming their pregnancy on Valentine’s Day, Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, told Oprah Winfrey in a bombshell interview in March that they were expecting a little girl.

Harry previously said in the September issue of British Vogue, which Meghan guest-edited, that he just wants “two (children).”

Meghan’s due date is unknown, but she is expected to give birth in June or July, based on the timing of her pregnancy announcement on Valentine’s Day.
