In the midst of his continuing custody fight, Angelina Jolie’s father, Jon Voight, says he ‘prays’ for his former son-in-law Brad Pitt.

On Tuesday, March 30, the 82-year-old actor was approached while running errands in Beverly Hills, California, to answer questions concerning his daughter’s custody battle. “I have no comment on it at the moment,” the Ray Donovan star said, but he did give an update on their six children and his grandchildren—Maddox, 19, Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 14, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 12. “The kids are coping as best they can,” Jon told The Sun, without going into much detail about his recent visits with the family.

Jon and Angelina had been estranged for years until the ‘Maleficent’ actress made strides to mend their relationship.

Following her divorce from Brad, the actress spoke to Vanity Fair in 2017 about establishing ground rules for her father around her children. “He’s been very good at understanding they needed their grandfather at this time. I had to do a therapy meeting last night and he was just around. He knows kind of the rule — don’t make them play with you,” she told the site. “Just be a cool grandpa who’s creative, and hang out and tell stories and read a book in the library,” she said of the conservative actor.

During his paparazzi stop, the 82-year-old actor appeared to respect Angelina Jolie’s wishes by keeping things private, although he did comment on Brad’s past alcoholism.

In the midst of his and Angelina’s divorce procedures, he expressed his wish that his former son-in-law “takes care” of himself. “He [Brad] has had some difficulties with alcohol and I hope that he takes care of things and I pray for the guy,” Jon said. On a trip home from Paris in 2016, Brad allegedly got into a drunken brawl with his and Angelina’s eldest son Maddox.

Angelina Jolie, 45, filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in September 2016 after alleging that the actor from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood had a drunken incident with their eldest son Maddox, 19.

Brad admitted in his first interview with GQ after his breakup with Angelina that his substance misuse had driven him “to the ground.” He promised to stop drinking and that he didn’t “want to live that way anymore.”

In the ongoing legal fight, the Fight Club actor has demanded 50/50 custody of the kids, despite Angelina’s belief that he should be given less.
