Prince Harry says Charles’ parenting doesn’t make sense

Prince Harry stated that his father warned him and Prince William that they would struggle with royal life as they grew up since that is what Prince Charles’ experience was like.

It made no sense, he added, for them to ‘suffer’ like Charles.

In The Me You Can’t See, an Apple TV+ documentary about mental health, Harry remarked about the lack of support he received from his family after opening out to them about his issues. Harry stated that his wife, Meghan Markle, had suicidal thoughts after being insulted in the press, and that their calls for assistance were answered with “total silence” from the family.

“My father used to say to me when I was younger, to both William and I: it was like that for me, so it’s going to be like that for you,” he said. “That doesn’t make sense. Just because you suffered that doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer.”

Harry went on to say, “In fact quite the opposite. If you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences that you had, you can make it right for your kids.”

The Duke of Sussex also stated that he wished to disrupt a “cycle” that his father had maintained.

“Isn’t this all about breaking the cycle?” he said. “Isn’t this all about making sure that history doesn’t repeat itself? That whatever cycle of pain and suffering has happened to you that you don’t pass on.”

Harry has already highlighted the strain in his connection with his father.

Before he and Markle announced their departure from the royal family, the Duke of Sussex told Winfrey that Prince Charles “stopped taking my calls”

“When we were in Canada, I had three conversations with my grandmother and two conversations with my father before he stopped taking my calls,” Harry explained.

“I’ve never blindsided my grandmother. I have too much respect for her.”

The revelation occurred when Winfrey questioned Harry if he and Meghan Markle had taken the queen by surprise with their choice to stand down as senior members of the royal family, as had been reported elsewhere.

Similarly, Harry addressed the widely known rift between him and his older brother, Prince William. While the duke loves Prince William and they’ve gone through a lot together, it’s evident that he and his brother are “on different paths,” according to the duke.

“The relationship is space at the moment and time heals all things, hopefully,” Harry continued.

The pair just celebrated their third wedding anniversary. They have one kid, Archie, who was born in 2019, and are expecting their second child, a daughter.
