Vin Diesel, the famous Hollywood actor who rose to fame through his iconic Fast & Furious franchise and other successful projects such as XXX, Saving Private Ryan, and The Pacifier, almost lost his house after a box office failure.

The cause of this was his involvement in the sci-fi franchise titled The Chronicles of Riddick, where he played the antihero Richard B. Riddick.

Although not a major commercial or critical success, the franchise still has a considerable fan base.

The franchise consists of three feature films, an animated short film, video games, and comics.

When the third installment of the franchise was released in 2013, Vin Diesel revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he had to risk his house while producing the movie.

Riddick lacked funding from any major studio, which led to many obstacles during the making of the film.

According to Diesel, his house was one of the core motivations to finish the film.

“I had to leverage my house.

If we didn’t finish the film, I would be homeless,” said Diesel, highlighting the difficult situation he was in.

David Twohy, the writer and director of the franchise, added that the crew was forced to finish the movie within 47 days to adjust the budget issues.

Despite being the highest-grosser in the franchise, the second installment was a box-office disappointment.

However, a fan requested an R-rated movie based on the franchise, which motivated Diesel to make it happen.

“Something about that comment made me think, bless their heart, and if I can do anything with this newfound success, if I could do anything at all, I could deliver on that wish.

It’s a strange and unique sense of gratification, and it’s not like any film I’ve done in the last 10 years,” said Diesel.

Earning a total of $98.3 million, Riddick was not a huge success in the career of Vin Diesel, compared to his other projects.

However, impressive DVD sales of the movie co-starring Katee Sackhoff and Karl Urban forced the directors to go for another sequel.

The upcoming addition to the franchise is titled Riddick: Furya and will feature the character’s return to his homeworld.

As of now, there is scarce information about the project.

The last update that was received from the movie revealed that the pre-production has moved into the stage of storyboarding.

Besides the sequel, it was also reported that director David Twohy along with Vin Diesel was working on a spin-off TV show titled Merc City.

Although The Chronicles of Riddick franchise did not bring Vin Diesel the success he had hoped for, his passion and commitment to the project were unwavering.

Despite the obstacles, he managed to overcome them and produce a film that his fans enjoyed.

Now, with plans for future installments in the works, fans of the franchise can look forward to more adventures from their favorite antihero.
