The county district attorney reviewing the matter said that criminal charges have not been ruled out in the tragic unintentional shooting of Alec Baldwin on the Rust film set.

In an interview with The New York Times on Tuesday, Mary Carmack-Altwies stated that she “hadn’t ruled anything out.”

“Everything at this point, including criminal charges, is on the table.”

Mary Carmack-Altwies also stated that referring to the pistol used in the event as a “prop gun,” as reported in the media, was wrong.

“It was a legit gun,” Carmack-Altwies told the newspaper. “It was an antique, era-appropriate gun.”

She said that a search warrant performed on the Bonanza Creek Ranch set discovered a “enormous amount of bullets on this set,” as well as three revolvers, expended casings, and ammo.

“We need to find out what kinds they were,” she explained.

“None of the producers of ‘Rust’ have been contacted by the New Mexico District Attorney’s office,” a spokesman for the film’s production company told CNN. “We will continue to fully cooperate with any and all law-enforcement investigations as they work through the details of this heartbreaking tragedy.”

According to Carmack-Altwies, the probe might take months to complete.

“It’s probably weeks, if not months, of follow-up investigation that we’re going to need to get to the point of charging,” she added.

Carmack-Altwies will be joined at a news conference today by Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza to discuss the tragedy.

Alec Baldwin, a Rust actor and producer, was practicing a “cross-draw” firearms firing skill and was aiming at a camera when the pistol went off inside a church, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.

Rust production has been halted as police examine the tragedy. In the moments before the incident, an assistant director unintentionally handed Baldwin, 63, a loaded pistol and informed him it was okay to use, according to court filings.

Baldwin called the killing a “tragic accident.”
