The inclusion of a dream scenario in which the Duchess of Sussex dies in a vehicle accident in Lifetime’s new Prince Harry and Meghan Markle film has sparked controversy.

Viewers have called a new video that depicts Meghan Markle ‘dying’ beneath an overturned car following a terrible collision in its opening scene, in echoes of Princess Diana’s death, as ‘tasteless and disgusting.’

The teaser indicated that the film will start with a dream sequence in which the Duchess of Sussex is involved in a vehicle accident; the teaser was released only days after the 24th anniversary of Diana’s death in Paris, according to the Daily Mail.

The actress portraying Meghan is mobbed by photographers who are photographing the terrifying collision.

Prince Harry, 36, makes his way through the crowd before yanking open the door.

Meghan, who is severely hurt, begs him to save her, but the experience is merely a nightmare, and Harry wakes up to find his wife and his baby Archie.

The movie, which premiers on Monday, September 6th, dramatizes the events leading up to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepping away from their royal duties in 2020 and their following tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Due to the unsettling comparisons to Harry’s own mother’s real-life death, the trailer has generated a lot of backlash from royal enthusiasts. “Meghan Markle ‘lies dying’ after a car crash at the start of new TV film – bloody tasteless if you ask me! Profiting of #Diana’s memory and playing #victim!” one Twitter user wrote.

The scene was described as “tasteless and abhorrent” by one Twitter user.

“Absolutely out of order, what are they thinking, this is so low I feel sick!” another added.

“They’ve lost control of their lives, I can’t believe even they are ok with this sick stunt,” a comment read.

“It’s light-minded to believe the narrative around #MeghanMarkle that ‘history repeats itself.’ She knew exactly who Diana was. Copying her before meeting Harry, making him “see the resemblance”, pretending “not being aware of the global interest” to then play the DianaCard,” a user opined.

‘This IS bang out of order WTF????’ commented another, while one called it ‘the lowest of the low’, accusing the film of cashing in on Princess Diana’s death.

“This is in bad taste,” another social media user said. “I don’t believe they can make a series like this!!”

“I find this unnecessary and offensive,” remarked a third.

Another person simply stated, “This is SICK.”

Following 2018’s Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and 2019’s Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal, this is the network’s third film on the royal couple.

The characters of Harry and Meghan have been taken over by British actor Jordan Dean and American actress Sydney Morton.

Stills from the latest film, which was shot in Vancouver, show the pair sharing passionate embraces in bed in their opulent Montecito house. To date, the Sussexes have been depicted in a number of films.

In ‘Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance,’ Murray Fraser and Parisa Fitz-Henley played the pair, while Charlie Field and Tiffany Smith took over in ‘Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal.’

Lifetime has been approached for comment by The Independent.

Despite having thinning hair in real life, Harry is given a full head of hair, while his balding brother William is played by an actor who has lost most of his hair.

In the United States, the latest drama will premiere on Monday. It is supposed to delve into the “true details” of why Harry and Meghan chose to leave their royal existence behind. The film will ““detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that The Firm was not defending them against the press’s attacks, and Harry’s fear that history would repeat itself and he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother’s untimely death.”

The pair has their own production company, which will solely produce Netflix docu-series, programs, and children’s programming.
