Prince Harry and Meghan Markle feature in a new set of pictures released as part of Time’s selection of the 100 Most Influential People of 2021, marking the first time the couple has been publicly photographed together for a magazine cover shoot.

Meghan was dressed entirely in white with her hair down, while Harry stood behind her in a black top and matching pants.

One of the photographs, issued to commemorate the Duke of Sussex’s 37th birthday on Wednesday, shows the couple looking squarely into the camera, with Prince Harry resting his hand on his wife’s shoulder. The beautiful images are the work of photographer Pari Dukovic.

They were “humbled” at being included on the list, according to their Archewell, website which ran an image from the shoot with a signed message that read: “Each of us can change our communities. All of us can change the world.”

The magazine feature was written by World Central Kitchen creator José Andrés, with whom the pair has previously collaborated to support disaster relief facilities.

“In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the duke and duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know,” he wrote. “They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.”

“They give voice to the voiceless through media production. Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need—offering mental-health support to Black women and girls in the U.S., and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean,”

The Archewell Foundation, named after the couple’s son, Archie, recently collaborated with World Central Kitchen to aid in recovery efforts following the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year.

“We recognize that many of you may feel helpless right now as you watch the state of the world spin rapidly,” Meghan and Harry said last month in a statement. “It can feel disorienting and defeating, but we have faith in the power of shared purpose, action, and commitment to our collective well-being.”

Dilys Ng, who has been photo-editing TIME100 covers for the past four years, stated in a TIME article that the photograph “captures their powerful dynamic as equal partners.”

The royal couple is joined on the Time 100 Most Influential People of 2021 list by six other cover stars, including British actor Kate Winslet, US gymnast and Olympic winner Simone Biles, World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, writer Cathy Park Hong, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang.

“Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, are not only humbled to be part of this year’s TIME100 through the words of friend and partner José Andres, but to also write in praise of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the publication’s annual list of Most Influential People,” reads their website.

According to a spokesperson, Time and ABC will bring the “list to life with a special television event” on Monday, September 20 at 10 p.m. ET, featuring a closer look at the hand-picked stars.
