According to a royal expert, Prince William may step down if he becomes King, but his father would never do so.

Royal expert Ian Lloyd says the Duke of Cambridge may abdicate before he reaches old age, something only a few British monarchs have done throughout history.

The end of the Queen’s reign, according to the expert, will bring numerous changes to the Firm.

Future British Kings and Queens, according to author Ian Lloyd, may follow the lead of past European monarchs who chose to retire at an age when they felt they could no longer serve or carry out their responsibilities.

Mr Lloyd, on the other hand, feels that a similar shift will occur during Prince William’s reign, since Prince Charles will “want to have a bit of time as King”

“Most of the other monarchies in Europe have abdications – for example King Juan Carlos of Spain, Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands and Albert II, the King of Belgium retired,” the author of “The Duke: 100 Chapters in the Life of Prince Philip” told Express.co.uk.

“The abdication and retirement of monarchs are commonplace in Europe.”

According to The Express, he believes the Queen would never abdicate because of her devotion to the Crown and legendary promise.

He continued: “Prince Charles would also never do it, he may be 80 by the time he ascends to the throne, and I think he would want to have a bit of time as King.

“I would think in the future Prince William may become the first British monarch of this century to abdicate when he reaches a certain age, because it’s better to have a King or Queen coming to the throne at the age of 40 and retire in your 70s when you have good health and can represent the country around the world.

“That may be a change we will see in the future.”

While other European royal heads of state are appointed, the monarchs of the United Kingdom are anointed.

This is because they become not only the heads of state of the United Kingdom and other overseas territories, but also the Church of England’s leaders.

Prince William and Kate Middleton married on April 29, 2011 and have three lovely children.

Whatever floats his boat. I think he will abdicate after he strips Harry and his wife of EVERYTHING, gives his mother back her titles, and then, he will step down. That’s what I think will happen. I will probably be dead when he gets to the throne, so, since I’m not an avid royal follower, just a casual one, it won’t bother me one way or the other.
