According to his publisher, Prince Harry is working on a “intimate and heartfelt memoir.”

According to sources, Harry has been writing on the book with renowned ghostwriter J.R. Moehringer. His split with the British royal family has flipped the institution on its head and caused a cultural firestorm on both sides of the Atlantic.

According to the press release, the book will be a “definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.” The book will be published in the United Kingdom by Transworld, a Penguin Random House UK subsidiary, in late 2022, with an accompanying audiobook version. The profits from book sales will also be donated to charity by the Duke.

Prince Harry, 36, said: “I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story – the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned – I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think.

“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a first-hand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”

Harry is said to have rushed to notify his family about the book only after he realized it was about to be announced – only minutes before it was made public.

According to reports, Harry has been working on the book for nearly a year, with a manuscript expected to be submitted to publishers next month.

“In an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time, Prince Harry will share, for the very first time, the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him,” according to a blurb seen by Page Six from the publisher.

“Covering his lifetime in the public eye from childhood to the present day, including his dedication to service, the military duty that twice took him to the frontlines of Afghanistan, and the joy he has found in being a husband and father, Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story.”

The memoir is expected to cover everything that has influenced Harry’s life, including his public appearances, his commitment to service, his time in the military in Afghanistan, and his newfound joy as a husband to Duchess Meghan and father to their two children, Archie and Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor.

“An honest and captivating personal portrait” is also promised.

The announcement of the memoir comes months after Harry and Meghan sat down for a riveting tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year, during which they detailed the immense pressure and scrutiny they faced from within the royal institution, which ultimately led to their historic decision to step down from senior roles in The Firm.

Harry expressed concern that history might repeat itself after his mother, Princess Diana, died in a car accident in Paris in 1997 while being pursued by photographers.

“All of us at Penguin Random House are thrilled to publish Prince Harry’s literary memoir and have him join the world-renowned leaders, icons, and change-makers we have been privileged to publish over the years,” said Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House.

“Prince Harry has harnessed his extraordinary life experience as a prince, a soldier, and a knowledgeable advocate for social issues, establishing himself as a global leader recognised for his courage and openness. It is for that reason we’re excited to publish his honest and moving story.”

Meghan’s picture book The Bench was released last month by Random House Books for Young Readers.

“Insiders are already discussing how much he’ll go in detail about his family after a huge fallout with William and accusing William and Charles of being trapped in their roles on the bombshell Oprah interview,” said a source. “He last saw William a few weeks ago at the Diana statue unveiling where, despite sharing a laugh with William, he jumped on a plane that afternoon to go home.”
