Prince Harry says “Just call me Harry”

When he returned to the UK for one of his last engagements before he and his partner, Meghan Markle, formally stood down as senior royals, Prince Harry demanded that people “just call me Harry”

The prince was speaking at a tourist conference in Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh.

Prior to the Duke of Sussex speech at the conference on sustainable tourism, Ayesha Hazarika, a former Labour advisor and broadcaster, told delegates: “He’s made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry.

“So ladies and gentlemen, please give a big, warm, Scottish welcome to Harry.'”

She later informed the Mail Online that she had been instructed to explain to the audience how to refer to the sixth in line to the throne.

She continued, “That just to say ‘look, I want to move away from that pomp and circumstance and I’m here as someone who is very passionate about this topic..”

“He doesn’t need a title. He is such a global figure now, he is recognisable all around the world. People know what he and his wife stand for, the causes they are passionate about. I think this is probably a nod to the future.”

The Duke of Sussex seemed to be in high spirits when he delivered an eco-warrior speech at the sustainable travel conference.

Prince Harry, who is recognised in Scotland as the Earl of Dumbarton, cautioned that the rise of tourism was threatening to ruin some of the world’s most beautiful places in his speech.

He added that this could contribute to “more communities becoming overwhelmed, more beaches shut because of pollution, and animals and wildlife driven from their natural habitat – which has a huge impact on communities and reduces tourism opportunities”

The duke urged travel and tourism companies to collaborate in order to create a more sustainable future.

Harry told the Travalyst event that Scotland’s industry was at the forefront of making the business more environmentally friendly, and that it might serve as a model for the rest of the UK and the planet.

He said, “We want to hear truths and perspectives from across the industry. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel, a lot of great work has already been done.

“But our research again shows that many of these endeavours have failed to reach the conscientiousness of consumers.

“We have to work together… to scale up the good practices already being used around the world. Scotland is a great example of what we mean.

“There is a holistic ambition to Scotland’s intent that can be adopted across the UK and even around the world

“Scotland is one of the fastest growing tourism destinations worldwide and it’s at the forefront of a more sustainable approach, which is why your insight into these issues is so incredibly valuable.”

Lord Thurso, the chairman of Visit Scotland, introduced the Duke as “Harry” and “Sir” during the ceremony.

Harry is unveiling a new vacation scheme that includes a ‘scoring system’ to enable visitors to use environmentally sustainable flights.

Following weeks of conversations between the pair and the royal family regarding how they would portray themselves to the public in the future, he and Meghan announced last week that they will not use the term “royal” in their branding.

Harry has expressed his regret at having to relinquish his royal responsibilities, claiming that there was no other choice if he and Meghan were to pursue an independent future free of suffocating media scrutiny.

Prince Harry is indeed a prince, but he has already mentioned that he prefers to be addressed as Harry, Duke of Sussex.

He and Meghan will retain their HRH prefix but will not use it actively. They’ll keep their Scottish titles of Earl and Countess of Dumbarton as well.
