Germaine Greer suggests that now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have given up their royal status, they will “fade into obscurity.”

In early 2020, their followers had conflicting feelings regarding Megxit; although some praised the pair for standing up for themselves, while others saw them as vain and ungrateful for effectively abandoning their positions as senior royals. Regardless of what some said, Harry and Meghan forged forward. The couple moved from London to Canada for a while before settling in California permanently.
The Australian feminist author said on 60 Minutes Australia that the Sussexes, who declared in January that they would be standing down from their positions as “senior members” of the royal family, might have “miscalculated” their significance.
“I think they may have miscalculated and I think they may slide into complete obscurity,” Greer said. “If you actually look at the vast panoply of royal relatives, many of them are completely obscure.”
“Wrong. She was not,” Greer said.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have given up their one fascinating characteristic.
The British royal family is interesting simply because of their international status. When media controversies and tragic figures are included, they become much more popular. Princess Diana was one of the people who captivated the world before, and after her death in 1997.
To the average American, Harry is yet another wealthy man living in Montecito with a B-list star. Among certain Brits, he’s a traitor to his kin and a deserter from his homeland.
The 81-year-old even spoke about the royal wedding of the pair, which she described as “terrible” since “it was full of showbiz personalities.”
The outspoken writer said, “The whole point about showbiz – it’s not real, and it won’t sustain you.”
Greer also speculated that Harry was drawn to Meghan because she was a “outsider.”
She speculated, “He was looking for a way out.”
When asked what she thought would happen now that the pair, Greer said she doubts they would return to England since she doesn’t believe they will be “welcome.”
“I mean they’ve really burnt their bridges and they’ve put up the shutters around Frogmore Cottage,” she said, adding: “How could they come back and say: ‘We made a big mistake and Canada’s horrible’”.
“I think they’re more likely to fade into the kind of obscurity that affects the junior members of the royal family already,” she concluded.
True, Harry and Meghan have good intentions. They left London first and foremost so that they could raise their baby, Archie, away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi who followed his every step. The Duke of Sussex, who remembers the consequences of this treatment from his own youth, tried to save his son from the worst of it.
On a larger scope, they’re engaged in social and environmental projects that would be difficult to undertake when adhering to the royal code of political neutrality. Prince Harry may be miles away from home, but he is not cut off from the rest of the family for the time being. So he’ll be willing to leverage his celebrity to support certain issues for a bit.
Will the Sussexes, like the hundreds of other Hollywood celebrities competing for recognition, fade into obscurity? Only time will tell.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will become Z-list celebrities after standing down as senior members of the Royal Family, according to Graham Smith, Republic’s CEO.
Mr Smith predicted, “They will just go off and do their own thing, I suspect they will fade into some obscurity.
“Their interest factor is that they were the Duke and Duchess.
“I think the Americans will get rather tired of them and they will become Z-list celebrities.
“However, they do have plenty of wealth to keep themselves going for the rest of their lives.”

Exactly my thoughts— there are many men far richer than Harry. And with two of his children she will have him trapped by the short and curlies— not a racist comment btw Megreedy and Olepreyer, and she will bleed him dry, teaching his children to do the same the rest of his life.

Jealous of Meghan? No, weighed her worthiness initially, some might have thought how worthy was a non-descript female of our much loved Prince? Others thought it admirable, wondrous thing to happen. She was instantly embraced by the RF and celebrated by the British public. No sooner was this felt, the public became aware that all was not well in the Royal household. MM was reported to have thrown a mighty fit, restricting Harry from joining an annual event, hunting. Squabbles with the Queen over which tiara was acceptable by MM for the wedding, tears by those at the dress-fitting, caused by MM’s impatience and swearing, and 3-year old Charlotte chided for fidgeting whilst being fitted. Not long after, staff began handing in their notice, 12 in all… that’s within the first eight months of becoming a Duchess?! Problems with lack of protocol hurting the Queen’s feelings, squabbles causing disharmony between the brothers, upstaging members of the family. Many complaints by MM were dished out, one was about the 10,000 year old church, where the wedding was to take place was smelly, and requested it air-freshened, invitations sent out to celebs hardly known by the bride, but not to her father’s and mother’s side of the family, except her mother! It was an unsettling time for the RF but none spoke out. Within a quick few months a pregnancy was declared by the couple (it is thought a surrogate was used by many, but that’s another story) Confusion arose when baby was born, the public wasn’t told exact day of the birth, and no traditional baby photo to the public. None! Full stop. More drama took place, a trip to Africa at exorbitant cost did very little, if any, for African mothers and children, a trip to Australia MM attacked one of the staff by throwing boiling hot tea, the RF forked out a handsome sum compensation for the scolded staff, at that same occasion, MM insulted and swore at her hostess, the Government wife for complaining about the injured staff, and for not offering MM an entire wing during their stay. Back in the UK, suing national newspapers, court case, well and truly hand-cufflinked Harry, with stitched lips was not to speak expect read out scripted speeches by MM (all in her American-style English!) How did that happen many would ask?Somehow, the taking over of Harry’s life happened so quickly. And MM’s exit out of Britain even quicker, with Harry on tow! All the upheaval in just two short years? The public has become weary, rightly so, disenchanted by it all. As if that wasn’t enough, MM gets Harry to agree to a public interview, specifically to accuse the RF of racism, that her mental state was ignored by the Royals, while at the Firm, and many more lies outrageously added. It’s mind boggling, there seems no end of lies and accusations, havoc created within the RF. The initial contact Harry made with Thomas Markle, to ask for his daughter’s hand, was dealt with in a civil manner, but didn’t last, soon the daddy started to throw a few insults down Harry’s ears. At the time of their engagement, huge scandals cropped up, MM’s half-brother Markle, arrested for pointing a gun to his gf’s head, naked relative running wild was arrested somewhere outside his home, drug abuse another, nephew and uncle homeless and living rough, starving hungry, half-sister calling MM names for not coming to the rescue of her blood family. All of this, and much more, suddenly landed at the Queen’s door. By the way, many more incidents that haven’t been stated kept for another day. These are recorded facts, it changes nothing when the sugars try to insult those that speak up as jealous, racist, not knowing MM personally, ask for proof, and many comment in defense. I ask to be excused for incorrect grammar. English not my first language.

I don’t hate them, what I do object to is my taxes used to pay for a wedding that they obviously didn’t appreciate or want, the money could have been used to feed hungry children. I also object to my taxes being used for theit security. Pay it yourselves.

She’s not a B list star. Most Americans didn’t know who she was at all until she married Harry. Now most Americans wish they had stayed in England. We have way too many entitled childlike adults here already. Ok ok Harry can stay, he’s certainly not the first person to rebel against his family, marry trash and live to regret it. You are correct in that Meghan Markle was not well known as an actor. I learned about the series she was in once she began dating Prince Harry. Eventually, I saw her in a Hallmark story & after that, I wouldn’t even rate her as a B; only a mediocre among many! I don’t get too excited about her clothing styles either; she only has 80 styles, 79 of them, what we once called SHIRTWaist dresses, back in the 70s-80s; even her coats are shirt waist style. For me, I just do not see what attracted Harry to her. I

I think they certainly did miscalculate the response to their interview. If they wanted to escape from the paparazzi in London I wouldn’t blame them but was that interview really necessary? I think Harry used the media and his family grievances as an excuse for abandoning his duty and so I thought it was a very cowardly decision as he knew they couldn’t and wouldn’t defend themselves. Sadly it projected them both in a very poor light as not only have they deeply hurt the Royal family but they have discredited the British public by portraying them as radicals and uncaring. They preach kindness and tolerance and yet they behave in cruel, self absorbed, prickly manner towards those closest to them. So they have lost my support and many others I’m sure.

I lived in Santa Barbara; worked, shopped, danced and ate in Montecito; I can tell you the Old Guard of Montecito will use the couple if they can ring money out of the public for one of their needed philanthropy projects, but to invite them over would not be for friendship, only novelty. Like many celebrity couples they will fade into obscurity as time goes by. Harry would be a nobody if he were not the son of Diana, and that she died. Most people in America could care less about Harry, and certainly less about Megan.

The only reason they are recognised at all in the US is because of their Royal status and yet they give an “interview” with Oprah in which they accuse the Royal Family of racism and Harry complains about being cut off financially when both he and his wife are worth millions and living in a mansion in Montecito. Furthermore Meghan writes a children’s book styling herself as Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex and Harry is given a job with a California coaching company called BetterUp and is styled on their website as Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex. Sheer hypocrisy!

I still find it difficult to believe that a woman who can start a foundation, move home three times, edit Vogue, write a book, sadly lose a baby and become pregnant again whilst still looking after a little one, involve herself in charities, sign up with three companies, battle mental health problems showing a firm grasp on things suddenly becomes an innocent little victim in the Oprah interview?
