Sources tell E! News how Alex Rodriguez is processing Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s reconciliation after news broke that they spent a week together on holiday.

According to reports in the new issue of Us Weekly, while Jennifer Lopez has moved on, Alex Rodriguez is still reeling from their breakup. The athlete is unable to understand how easily J. Lo reunited with Ben Affleck, according to sources.

After her relationship to Alex Rodriguez ended in March, followers of “Bennifer” were definitely surprised to see pictures of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez spending time together in recent weeks.

“Alex is still very sore and in a world of pain,” an insider tells Us. “It’s the first time anyone can remember him being dumped like this, at least publicly.”

There’s no doubt that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s latest getaway has everyone’s attention.

And a source tells PEOPLE that Rodriguez, 45, was “was pretty surprised,” when he learned about Affleck, who was seen at Lopez’s Los Angeles home in late April, more than a week before the actor, 48, and the singer, 51, went on a days-long trip to Montana together.

Rodriguez, whose ex-girlfriends include Cameron Diaz and Kate Hudson, began dating Lopez, 51, in 2017 and the two were engaged for two years before splitting in mid-April.

According to the source, “A-Rod is shocked that J.Lo has moved on.” “He truly thought they would be able to make it work and reconnect. He has been reaching out to J.Lo trying to meet with her and she has been very short with him.

Rodriguez’s response to Affleck and Lopez sharing time together 17 years after they broke off their own engagement in 2004 is, “It definitely hurt his ego,” the source says.

The insider says of A-Rod, “Seeing her running straight back to Ben’s arms is a real kick in the teeth.” “There’s a part of him that still clings onto the hope that they’ll wind up together again but deep down he’s had to accept the harsh truth that she’s over him and moving on with Ben. It’s a tough pill to swallow but that’s his new reality.”

Alex is “saddened” by J.Lo’s reunion with the Justice League actor, according to the source, and has reached out to her to let her know “he’s upset.”

According to a second source close to J.Lo, their weeklong reunion allowed them to “see where this could lead.”

Lopez and Rodriguez, who were engaged in March 2019 after two years of dating, released a joint statement in April confirming their split. “We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support,” their statement read.

“She wants to give it a shot with Ben,” the insider puts it simply. “They never really had closure and she has always wondered what could have been. The timing was never right and they were in different places until now.”
