Meghan Markle’s prospective presidential candidacy in the United States, according to royal author Anna Pastemark, will be backed by powerful individuals.

Despite the controversy from Megxit, the author of Princess in Love, a book about Princess Diana’s love affair with James Hewitt, told Fox News that the duchess may still run for high office.

The author told Fox News that despite her and Prince Harry’s separation from the royal family, the Duchess of Sussex would have no problems because the couple has settled in America.

The “million-dollar question,” according to the 53-year-old, is what awaits the Duke and Duchess of Sussex now that they’ve stepped down as senior royals and settled in America. “I can see Meghan being backed by powerful people and eventually trying for political office,” she continued.

“I think she has an ambition that knows no bounds. So I wouldn’t be all that surprised if that was part of her agenda. All power to her, if that’s what she really wants.”

Meanwhile, royal analyst Richard Eden said on MailPlus’s Palace Confidential: “A very good source said even after Meghan had started going out with Prince Harry she had said that her ultimate ambition was to be president.”

“It seems to be increasingly likely and what a fascinating prospect it would be,” Eden added.

Meghan relocated to Los Angeles with her son Archie last year after stepping down as a senior member of the Royal Family with Prince Harry.

Victoria Murphy, a royal analyst, added to the conversation, “It would be absolutely extraordinary if it did happen and totally unprecedented. I would never say never but I don’t think this is something that is on the cards in the near future.”

“Anyone I’ve spoken does seem to suggest that’s the case. What be interesting about it is one of the challenges for Harry and Meghan now is to be seen as other than the Royal Family,” she said.

“Everything that they do, their identities are shaped by the royal family and I do not see how that could ever not be the case. If she was to become President their legacy would be completely different,” she added.

Meghan Markle was networking with senior Democrats earlier this month to lay the groundwork for a political campaign and fundraising teams that could eventually set the wheels in motion to take her all the way to the White House, according to a senior Labour politician – said to be a veteran of Tony Blair’s administration – who spoke to The Mail on Sunday

Meghan, who is a US citizen, may pursue a political career, according to royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams.

Mr Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “Meghan is a very articulate activist.”

“She began activism when she was little, she’s done a great deal over the years.

“There’s no doubt whatsoever that matters in future years could lead to Meghan having a political career or a career with a political dimension because she’s an American citizen. We simply don’t know.

“What we do know is the Netflix deal is very lucrative and will bring certain rewards.

“We also know that there is no question that they seem very happy in the US.”

Others have said that a former senior royal running for President would be “unprecedented.”

Tom Bower, an investigative journalist and novelist, stated earlier this week that Ms Markle has “had her time” acting and is now “likely” to run for president of the United States, saying: “The prospect of Meghan running for president is possible and I’d even say likely. I really believe it’s where she sees herself going.” He told Good Morning Britain: “She’s known across the world at the expense of the royal family and that’s the first step to a political career. She’s got the right basis for it because she’s ambitious and she has a lot to say.”
