Henry Cavill feels Tom Cruise’s injuries in Mission: Impossible – Fallout helped the picture in the long run. Cruise is well-known for executing his own stunts in action flicks. He also trained to fly a helicopter for a critical moment in Fallout. While this dedication to authenticity is admirable, it does come with a number of hazards. Cruise broke his ankle while jumping from building to building during filming, which caused the film to be delayed for a lengthy time.

Henry Cavill, who portrays August Walker in the sequel, told Metro.co.uk how Cruise’s injury helped the movie by enabling them to recover from a ‘knackered’ period.

“I don’t know how many months in it was, but we were all knackered at that stage. So when the break happened, literally, and then the hiatus, we just went, ‘You know what it’s not a bad time to recoup and we can just rest up a bit, make sure everything’s perfect and come back.’ And we did. It was good and worked really in our favor.”

Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie recently said that the picture began filming without a finalized script, so it’s conceivable that he spent the time off fine-tuning the screenplay to ensure it was up to par. Furthermore, action movies like Mission: Impossible are exhausting to create, so the rest of the cast undoubtedly appreciated the chance to recuperate before the next round of shooting. Obviously, Cruise and McQuarrie would have like to finish Fallout without a hitch, but no one can deny that the results are satisfactory.

Cruise’s injuries didn’t make the rest of the actors nervous about handling the film’s huge stunts, according to Mission: Impossible co-star Rebecca Ferguson, who portrays IIsa Faust.

Ferguson told Metro.co.uk: ‘I think there’s always a level of concern. The dude is hanging off a helicopter, there’s nothing normal. For him to break an ankle jumping over two houses feels a little bit pathetic compared to what could happen really.

‘You’re always aware something can go terribly wrong. But he healed very fast, didn’t he? I know it was bloody painful. He was limping around on set and then he wasn’t, he was running again.’

Mission: Impossible Fallout appears to live up to the expectations, further elevating this ever-improving franchise. This worked out so well that they may as well plan a pause in the next installment of the franchise and hope Tom Cruise doesn’t have any more actual ones.
