Kelly McGillis made a rare public appearance over the weekend in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

The actress, 60, was dressed in a white t-shirt, black slacks, black shoes, and black sunglasses as she exited a car and walked down the street, holding a denim jacket.

She was regarded as one of Hollywood’s hottest talents in the 1980s, and after appearing with Tom Cruise in Top Gun, she seemed bound for greatness.

McGillis portrayed the love interest of Tom Cruise’s character, LT Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, in the classic 1980s film.

Due to their onscreen chemistry being so outstanding, there were rumors that they may have had a real-life connection after the cameras stopped rolling.

Since Top Gun, the actress has acted in dozens of films, the most recent of which was Maternal Secrets in 2017.

McGillis’ appearance comes at an unusual moment, since the sequel to Top Gun has commenced filming.

Tom will be returning to his Top Gun roots to make the long-awaited sequel we’ve all been waiting for, it was announced earlier this month.

While Val Kilmer, who played Maverick’s main opponent in the first film, has been confirmed for the sequel, there is no indication on whether Kelly will be joining them.

Val ‘jumped the topgun’ in 2015 when he announced on Facebook that he had been given a role in Top Gun: Maverick.

‘Offered ‪#‎topgun2‬ — not often you get to say ‘yes’ without reading the script…’ he said.

He then added: ‘This is a long way off so calm down. This has been talked about for a long long time and being offered a role is very different from doing a role.

‘I jumped the gun with my post. I jumped the topgun…an innocent mistake. It was just such a wonderful phone call with my agent.’

Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, played by Cruise, will play a flying instructor in the film, as the Navy grapples with the influence of drones on their operations.

Director Joseph Kosinski told Comingsoon.net, “The Navy is very different now than it was in 1986. Back then, they hadn’t been in any war for 15 or 20 years at that point. The tone of that movie and what those guys were doing was very different. Now, here in 2017, the Navy’s been at war for 20 years. It’s just a different world now, so you can’t remake the first movie. It has to adapt.”

He went on to say, “That being said, I certainly want to recreate the experience of that movie, which gives you a front-seat into the world of Naval aviation and what it’s like to be in a fighter jet. The approach is going to be appropriate for the times we live in.”
