Vanessa Hudgens believes her co-star James Franco’s remarks regarding his sexual assault charges, according to a recent interview with InStyle.

She reacted to the claims of Franco’s sexually improper behavior at a pre-Grammys party on Thursday, January 25th. Hudgens defended the actor, virtually repeating what he said after the 2018 Golden Globes on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, in which the actor refuted several of the charges. “The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate,” he said. “But I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long.”

“So I don’t want to, you know, shut them down in any way. It’s, I think, a good thing and I support it.”

Franco continued the next day during his appearance on Late Night. “Like I said, there are stories that need to get out. There are people that need to be heard. I have my own side of this story, but I believe in these people that have been underrepresented getting their stories out enough that I will hold back things that I could say just because I believe in that much,” he said. “If I have to take a knock because I’m not going to try and actively refute things, then I will, because I believe in it that much.”

Hudgens claimed she believed Franco’s explanation to Colbert when asked about the claims against him.

“I support what he said,” she remarked, referring to remarks he made earlier this month on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Late Night with Seth Meyers.

“He’s saying that the allegations are false but he supports all the women speaking up because they didn’t have a voice before, and the fact that that they do now is an amazing thing,” Hudgens continued. “He supports that. I just know that I loved working with him. He was always very respectful.”

Franco’s old High School Musical co-star wasn’t the only one who was questioned about the claims. On the red carpet at the SAG Awards, Alison Brie, who is married to Franco’s brother and Disaster Artist co-star Dave, was asked about Franco’s alleged sexual assault. Brie told Giuliana Rancic of E!:

“I think above all what we’ve always said is that it remains vital that anyone who feels victimised should and does have the right to speak out and come forward,” she said. “I obviously support my family and not everything that’s been reported is fully accurate so I think we’re waiting to get all the information. But of course now is a time for listening, and that’s what we’re all trying to do.”

Hudgens’ remarks come only days after Vanity Fair announced that James Franco had been digitally erased from their annual Hollywood Portfolio edition, which was recently released on newsstands.
