Tom Cruise, 55, and Jamie Foxx, 49, were close friends when the megastar cast the actor in the action picture Collateral in 2004. They stayed friends until the Annie actor began dating Katie Holmes, 38, barely a year after her acrimonious divorce from Tom in 2012. After four years of dating, Holmes and Foxx have finally made their relationship public, but the Mission: Impossible star isn’t happy that his pal is dating his ex-wife.

Cruise is “shocked and upset” that Holmes is dating someone he formerly considered a friend, and he has known about their relationship since 2013, a year after the former couple divorced.

“Tom has known about Katie and Jamie’s secret relationship since the beginning and it has always bothered him that they were hooking up. While Katie and Jamie did their best to keep things a secret from the world, Tom is too well-connected and found out about them shortly after their romance began,” a source told Hollywood Life. “Tom is shocked and upset that Katie is dating a costar he once considered a close friend. He feels betrayed by both of them.”

Katie divorced Tom and the Church of Scientology in such a dramatic manner, issuing him with divorce papers while he was filming a movie in Iceland in June of 2012. While she and her daughter Suri, now 11, stayed in New York for months, Katie began attending more social events in 2013, and it was at a Hamptons gala in August of that year that she met Jamie.

Because Cruise allegedly inserted a condition in her 2012 divorce settlement prohibiting her from openly dating for five years, Holmes and Foxx allegedly took efforts to keep their relationship a secret.

“Katie signed a clause in her quickie divorce settlement that prevents her from embarrassing Tom in various ways, like talking about him or Scientology, or publicly dating another man for five years after the divorce,” a source said. “She’s allowed to date, but she cannot do so in a public fashion, and she’s not supposed to let any boyfriend near their daughter Suri.”

However, now that she has been divorced for nearly five years, the couple appears to be less concerned about keeping their relationship hidden from the public view. They were caught holding hands while walking down the beach in Malibu during Labor Day weekend, and they didn’t seem to mind that the paparazzi snapped their PDA.

According to a source previously quoted by the gossip site, Holmes and Foxx have a “most special” relationship.

“They’ve had a roller coaster relationship, but they keep coming back for more. It’s the most special romantic relationship Katie’s ever had,” the source had said.
