Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed that his next film ‘The Revenant’ is one of the “most difficult” he’s ever done due to the problems he experienced while filming scenes.

The actor made his remarks at a Q&A session after the screening at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills on Monday night. At numerous screenings on Sunday and Monday, Fox and New Regency unwrapped the film, one of the year’s most anticipated, for guild and media members.

According to Variety, DiCaprio said the picture and his “silent-movie performance” took a lot of practice. Despite the fact that his performance is mostly silent and has a straightforward plot, DiCaprio stated, “We wanted to find the poetry.” Aside from the weather, production was challenging since they only had 90 minutes each day in the “beautiful, illustrious Chivo light,” DiCaprio remarked, referring to director of photography Emmanuel Lubezki (Birdman).

He explained: “It was about us immersing ourselves in nature and putting ourselves as close as we could to the struggle of these people and finding the through line in that process. It’s all a beautiful blur to me.

“You have to rehearse meticulously and then it’s a mad, intense scramble to capture this magic light, this precious hour and a half.”

There were intricate, single takes that lasted several minutes, and they were often filming in 30-below temps, according to director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who added that “conditions were against us all the time.” He admitted that the cold was difficult for him since “I’m a tropical man from Mexico City.”

Inarritu, who also co-wrote the script with Mark L. Smith, stated that they had just finished the picture last week. He’d started scouting five years before, knowing every area ahead of time since he knew filming would be difficult.

Hugh Glass, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, is an explorer who is mauled by a bear and left for dead by his crew, who also kills his kid, sending Glass on a journey for vengeance.

The film is from Fox, New Regency, Appian Way and RatPac Entertainment.

The Revenant hits UK theaters on January 15, 2016, with Oscar nominations released the day before.
