A woman has been sentenced to two years in jail for slashing star Leonardo DiCaprio’s face with a shattered bottle during a Hollywood party in 2005.

On Nov. 12, Aretha Wilson, 40, pleaded guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon after discovering that DiCaprio had agreed to testify against her. Wilson could have faced four years in jail if the matter had gone to trial.

Her attorney stated outside the Los Angeles courtroom where she was sentenced that she was granted credit for the roughly one year she has already served in jail, and that with time off for good behavior, she may stay behind bars for another six months.

DiCaprio did not appear at the hearing in Los Angeles.

Wilson’s attorney, Freddy Sayegh, told reporters that he was satisfied with the verdict, while a prosecutor said DiCaprio was relieved that the matter was concluded before a full trial.

DiCaprio required 17 stitches after the incident. Following the attack, the 40-year-old assailant escaped to her Canadian country before being extradited back to L.A., where she has been detained since July.

Witness Eustace Hicks testified earlier this year that he and DiCaprio were leaving a party in Hollywood Hills with another buddy when Wilson approached and yelled at the buddy before hitting DiCaprio.

“She hit him with a wine glass… It appeared to be in his face… his neck and ear area,” Hicks said.

Wilson should be tried, ruled Judge Edmund Willcox Clarke after studying images of the wounds.

“This would not be an injury that would be called trivial or moderate in my view,” he stated.

Sayegh informed reporters that when Wilson completes her sentence, she will be transferred over to federal authorities and deported to Canada.
