It has been revealed that Leonardo DiCaprio is supporting Kate Winslet during the collapse of her marriage.

After becoming well-known for their roles as lovers in Titanic, DiCaprio and Winslet reunited on film in Revolutionary Road, which was directed by her husband Sam Mendes, two years ago.

As the three of them worked on the 2008 film, the actress turned to her co-star when issues in her relationship with Mendes began to emerge. She is reportedly depending on his assistance to get through this challenging period.

Although the pair just formally announced their breakup on Monday, there are rumors that they had been drifting apart for months and that DiCaprio had provided Winslet a shoulder to cry on as she prepared for her second divorce.

“Leo and Kate have been like brother and sister since they starred in Titanic together,” a source told the Sun.

“And since Kate’s marriage started to go south, around the time they were filming Revolutionary Road, they’ve got closer again.

“Kate has always really adored Leo and feels like she can tell him anything.”

“They were so young when Titanic came out, so it’s fair to say they basically grew up together, professionally at least.

“They were thrust into stardom together and were the only people who knew what the other was going through. He’s been a rock for her,” the insider added.

While Kate, who is on vacation in Mexico with her two kids, Joe, 6, and Mia, 9, from her marriage to Jim Threapleton, has a strong connection with Leonardo, Sam’s relationship with actress Rebecca Hall, 27, is said to be the source of many of their disagreements.

The filmmaker first met Rebecca in 2006 while working on the set of the film for which he served as executive producer. Last summer, Rebecca worked on two theatrical plays with the director’s Bridge Project theater group in New York and London.

A source said, “Sam is a huge admirer of Rebecca’s work. He really worked well with her. There’s no suggestion of anything untoward but undoubtedly the friendship didn’t help mend their struggling relationship.”

According to reports, British actress Winslet and 44-year-old Oscar winner Mendes’ relationship worsened on the set and ultimately resulted in their breakup.

The insider said to the publication: “Sam raised several questions over whether she should be doing it, insisting she was above a TV script and it wouldn’t progress her career. Not surprisingly, Kate went ballistic.”

Kate’s first marriage to film director Jim Threapleton ended in 2001.

They are parents of 9-year-old Mia Honey.
