Meghan Markle is known for her feminist credentials, so it’s no surprise that she gave birth to her new baby girl, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, at a female-founded hospital on Friday at 11:40 a.m.

On June 4, Meghan Markle and husband Prince Harry welcomed their baby Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor into the world at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

While it was previously speculated that the Duchess will give birth in Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center — the celebrity maternity wing – that facility is 88 miles from the Sussexes’ Montecito residence.

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, on the other hand, is substantially closer to the couple’s home, being only a ten-minute drive away.

When the city’s population was barely 5,000 people, a group of 50 pioneering women established the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in 1888. The non-profit organization delivers 2,400 babies per year, with a normal delivery costing £10,000 and a Caesarian section costing £20,000, according to reports.

On Sunday, June 6, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced Lilibet’s birth information. The famous couple’s press secretary revealed, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” a statement from the press secretary for the celebrity couple explained. “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital has Wi-Fi and a huge video monitor in every room. According to the website, expecting moms can order meals from a menu as well as snacks from their pantry.

To complement the birthing bed, each room offers a recliner, a rocking chair, and a couch, as well as a large quantity of cushions for comfort.

The lovely structure is built in the Spanish colonial style, which is a popular architectural style in the California region. The hospital seems more like a hotel, with room service, elegant beds, and Internet, just like the Portland in London, where Meghan gave birth to her first child Archie. There’s also a balcony where you can get some fresh air. The hot tub, which may be used for hydrotherapy, is the finest addition.

With the advent of Lilibet, the long-reigning queen is “overjoyed to be a great grandmother again,” according to an insider.

“The queen was one of the first people Harry and Meghan told about the birth, and they’ve sent her photos,” the insider revealed. “She has put the drama (from the interviews) aside.”

Because Prince Harry and Meghan’s baby was born in the United States, she is automatically granted American citizenship. And because of Harry’s British citizenship, the baby will be a British citizen as well.

Harry and Meghan wrote in a personal statement on the couple’s website: “On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili. She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”

Last year, singer Katy Perry allegedly picked the hospital to give birth to her baby with actor Orlando Bloom. According to Harry’s recent appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert show, the Hollywood celebs are new pals of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

For her first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,  Meghan chose to give birth at Portland Hospital in London rather than the Lindo Wing, a favorite among the royal family and where Princess Diana delivered Harry and his elder brother, Prince William.
