While promoting her new movie at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, actress Olivia Wilde apparently received legal documents from her ex-partner, “Ted Lasso” actor Jason Sudeikis.

The filmmaker received a brown envelope while making an appearance to promote her new movie Don’t Worry Darling, which stars her boyfriend Harry Styles and actress Florence Pugh.

While speaking about Don’t Worry, Darling during the presentation, someone came up to Wilde from the audience and gave her a manila folder marked “personal and confidential.”

“This is for me? Is this a script?” Wilde said upon receiving the envelope. After glimpsing the contents, she added, “OK, got it. Thank you.” Wilde, who did not discuss the contents of the folder, continued her presentation while holding the envelope.

Deadline soon reported that the envelope held legal documents pertaining to the custody of her and ex-Jason Sudeikis’ children; the two were engaged for seven years and had two children together before their divorce in November 2020.

“Papers were drawn up to establish jurisdiction relating to the children of Ms. Wilde and Mr. Sudeikis,” a spokesperson for the Ted Lasso actor told Deadline. “Mr. Sudeikis had no prior knowledge of the time or place that the envelope would have been delivered as this would solely be up to the process service company involved and he would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.”

A representative for the 46-year-old Sudeikis told ET that he was unaware when the documents would be delivered and “would never condone her being served in such an inappropriate manner.”

The plan to hand-deliver the custody papers to Wilde at CinemaCon was allegedly orchestrated by his attorneys.

The actress is best known for directing the film Booksmart and for her role as Remy ‘Thirteen’ Hadley in House.

Despite the breakup, Sudeikis and Wilde’s relationship (and co-parenting of their two children remained amicable) as far as the public eye could tell.

Though Styles and Wilde have been relatively private about their relationship, the two still appear to be together. Everything seemed to be fine, until she was served papers onstage at CinemaCon.

As Deadline notes, the CinemaCon scene had to have been carefully planned: Taking place at Caesars Place’s Colosseum in Las Vegas, any non-industry attendees of the event—as the person who served the papers presumably was—would need to purchase a badge for entry. Those involved in the production of CinemaCon reportedly told Deadline they were unaware as to how the person entered the building or who exactly they were.

New York Magazine writer Chris Lee subsequently reported on Twitter, “A well-placed CinemaCon source tells me whoever served her those documents had all the right credentials including the covid vax bracelet and ID lanyard that convention delegates have to wear.”
