Courteney Cox is happy with the work she and her co-stars put in to make Friends the cult favorite it is today, but she doesn’t recall filming much of it.

Friends is unquestionably one of the most popular series on television. There are a lot of plots, gags, and catch phrases to remember over the course of 10 years and 235 episodes. As a result, it’s reasonable if part of it is hazy for the show’s greatest stars.

Cox, 57, recently sat down for a long “Sunday Sitdown” interview with “Today’s” Willie Geist, during which the actress said that when she appeared on “Friends: The Reunion” in May 2021, she found she had a lot of gaps in her memory.

“I should’ve watched all 10 seasons because when I did the reunion and was asked questions, I was like, ‘I don’t remember being there,’” she joked. “Yeah. I don’t remember filming so many episodes.”

She doesn’t recall because her memory isn’t as sharp as it used to be, not because she has any negative emotions against her fellow cast members or because she spent too much time on set.

“I’m kinda bummed that we didn’t spend more time taking pictures,” she said, “because I don’t have a lot to look back at.”

Cox said that she has had a terrible memory since she was a child, which explains why she can’t recall recording much of the show.

“It’s really basic; I don’t remember any trauma in my childhood, but I have, like, three memories. I don’t know. I don’t know why.”

However, her memories of her time on the show aren’t completely wiped. Cox shared a recollection that has stayed with her throughout the years.

Director James “Jim” Burrows took the ensemble of “Friends” on a vacation to Las Vegas shortly before the show’s premiere in 1994.

“He gave us all $500. And he said, ‘I want you to take care, like, really take notice of this moment because it will be the last time that all six of you together can walk through a casino,’” she said. “And we were like, ‘Really?’ And it was true. We never could never do that (again).”

“I mean, I don’t wanna sound like, ‘Look at us.’ We’re not, you know, the Beatles. But people feel like they know you,” she said. “If we were all to walk down the street, six of us, it would be, I think it would be really interesting to people.”

Last year, Cox and the rest of the main Friends cast—Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer—reunited onscreen for the first time since the show’s 2004 finale. For many of them, looking back on their time together was bittersweet. Aniston told The Hollywood Reporter that she had to leave the reunion many times because the emotions were too much for her, and she told E! News that everyone, except for Schwimmer, was in a pool of tears at one point.

“It was unbelievable. It was so emotional. It’s an unscripted reunion, but we got to be on Stage 24 for the first time, all of us in, like, I forgot how many years. 15 years? 17 years?,” Cox stated on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

She even brought up her memory problems to host Ellen DeGeneres at the time. “Oh, God, I have the worst memory. Everything came up that I forgot about,” she explained.

Courteney Cox played the role of Monica Geller on the popular television show Friends. Her character was known for being a clean freak and a perfectionist, and she often clashed with her laid-back and messy roommate, Joey Tribbiani (played by Matt LeBlanc).

Cox’s performance on Friends earned her critical acclaim and several award nominations, including six Primetime Emmy Award nominations and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

In addition to her acting on Friends, Cox also directed several episodes of the show, including “The One with the Baby on the Bus” and “The One Where Joey Dates Rachel”.

Cox’s character, Monica, was originally supposed to be a guest star in the pilot episode, but the producers liked Cox’s performance so much that they made her a regular cast member.

In the show, Monica was revealed to be the older sister of Ross Geller (played by David Schwimmer), and the two often bickered and competed with each other.

One of the most memorable storylines involving Monica was when she became romantically involved with her friend Chandler Bing (played by Matthew Perry), who eventually became her husband.

Cox’s character was also known for her on-again, off-again relationship with her high school crush, Richard Burke (played by Tom Selleck).

Cox’s performance as Monica on Friends helped to establish her as a leading actress in Hollywood and led to several other successful roles, including the Scream franchise and the television show Cougar Town.

Friends aired for 10 seasons and ended in 2004, and Cox’s performance as Monica Geller remains one of her most iconic and memorable roles.

Courteney Cox was the only cast member of Friends to appear in every episode of the show.

Before being cast as Monica on Friends, Cox had previously starred in the television show Family Ties and the movie Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Cox was close friends with her on-screen sister, Jennifer Aniston (who played Rachel Green), and the two often worked together on other projects outside of Friends, including the movie The Object of My Affection and the television show Dirt.

In addition to her acting and directing work on Friends, Cox was also a producer on the show, along with her then-husband, David Arquette.

Cox and Arquette, who were married from 1999 to 2013, also had a production company together called Coquette Productions, which produced several television shows and movies.

After Friends ended, Cox starred in her own television series, Cougar Town, which ran for six seasons from 2009 to 2015.

In recent years, Cox has continued to act and has appeared in several movies and television shows, including the Netflix series four-part special, Stand by Me: Revisited.

In addition to her acting career, Cox is also a successful businesswoman and has launched several ventures, including a production company, a clothing line, and a home furnishings line.

Cox is also known for her philanthropic work and has supported several charities, including Stand Up to Cancer and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.

Despite the end of Friends over 17 years ago, Cox’s performance as Monica Geller continues to be celebrated and remembered by fans of the show around the world.
